Urgent - Use of foil instead of white upvc in triple glazing?
Comments

Turned out to be a mistake by the sales manager - windows are actually 1.1uw (0.96ug, 0.46 solar and 0.00ul); A+ (12.22) rated and foil won't affect performance, so I'm happy enough. Most double glazing doesn't seem to far exceed the 1.6uv stipulated by the new building regs.
I hear Everest produces double glazing in the region of A+12 WER but I'd probably have to pay at least twice the price (and triple sounds better ^_^)!
Thanks for the responses.0 -
Just so you know, 1.1 isn't amazing for a triple glazed product, rationel get 0.79 from their triple glazed window and nordan 0.7 (nordans standard double glazed product is 1.2)
Most double glazed upvc doesn't get quoted in uvalue rather the a,b ratings because they are designed to meet the minimum spec in the regs, and most folk dont dig into the finer details.
If you want good windows you'll have to look hard, finding good upvc is even harder! Although I seem to remember a passiv one that was done about 0.5 but no idea of the costs...This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Don't listen to people who say they don't get payback on 3G. Do they get payback from their kitchens? There are many benefits to 3G. All new houses should have them, and all existing glazing in dwellings should be upgraded to them.0

I do not follow the comment regarding windows. This would not be eco or sustainable when thinking of the Three R 's. Also, the triple glazing will not fit - new bespoke beads would be required and these would be unacceptable to many folks because they would look ugly.0 -
I'm talking about taking the frames out too. Most of the problems are in the frames, and where/how they are installed, anyway!
The three Rs are a matter of economics. It makes perfect sense to replace things if they will derive energy savings over their lifetime. Of course these things need doing alongside the walls, the ventilation...0 -
Green Sheep is talking rubbish, the insulation in the walls is estimated by the age of the building and the thickness of the walls so his single brick walls are not thick enough to have 3 inches of insulation in them.
Well, I had exactly the same experience a Green Sheep last year.
I had an EPC "survey" carried out and this simply involved the surveyor looking at the insulation in the loft (not even stepping foot in there for a good look, simply poking his head up through the opening and then checking a few light fittings to see what types of bulbs were there.
He asked me if there was cavity wall insulation all over to which I told him there was but at no point did he make any attempt to confirm that this was the case.0
