Cancelling multiroom - can I choose which box

Options
Hi
Can't seem to find the answer to this question.

I'm planning on cancelling sky sports and also the multiroom as part of a New Year financial blitz :)

We have a Sky +HD box which is the newer box and in the original location where we have always had sky (so I assume this to be the main box).

About 4 years ago we got an extension so had multiroom added and cables run through to the extension, and they connected the old sky + box.

The way we use the house has changed in that all viewing is done in the extension (the 2nd multiroom box). So I have a couple of questions.....

1) If I cancel multiroom can I choose which box remains active and which just gets the free channels?

2) I want to move the newer +HD box into the extension (essentially just swap them over). Would this impact on the multiroom cancellation?

Thanks very much

My understanding is that you just swap the viewing cards if necessary and re-pair with the required box.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Yeah, it's the CARD that gets cancelled, not the box. By the sounds of it, they'll cancel the one you want them to, and leave the Sky HD box alone. When it's cancelled on the old box, leave the card in, and you'll have freesatfromsky - no recording, but most of the terrestrial channels you would want.
IF the wrong card goes, just swap them round between the boxes. You may need to pair the card to the box, which is easy enough. Moving a box within a house has no impact.
  • No need to re-pair the cards. All that is required is to swap the boxes entirely. In other words simply unplug both from there mains and the satellite dish and then place the current subscription box in the location you most use and the other in the less-used room.

It'll even be possible to do this in reverse if your room use changes again.
  • Thanks all for the replies - very helpful

So, if the card is not cancelled, then does that mean that there is no point for non-subscription viewers to obtain a Freesat from Sky card any more to get those few extra channels that I can never remember the names of?

Hasn't been necessary for years. Only required when Sky change their cards because obviously they don't provide new ones to non-subscribers.
