Help challenging credit card defaults

I took out a credit card a little over 3 years ago with MBNA. The plan at the time was to use it for occasional spending to boost my credit score. When I took out the card, I was working full time on a good wage, I was getting payed on a set day of the month and there where no issues. The problems began when I changed jobs. I took an apprenticeship which provided better future prospects than my previous job, with the caveat that I was making a considerably lower wage and incidentally getting paid on the last working day of the month. This meant that I was left with about £20 a month to myself after bills (provided there where no additional outgoings to cover unexpected events and the like) and that the day I got paid was after the due date for my credit card payment. Because I was also using public transport and the tickets I was buying only covered 4 weeks rather than a full month, on any month with more than 28 days I was also having to fork out for an additional couple of days travel costs, usually using said credit card. This caused me to miss some payments, and despite contacting MBNA, they refused to move the payment date until all issues were resolved (counter intuitive to resolving the issue) which subsequently resulted in me missing more payments, getting charged for missing said payments and my credit file being impacted.
My question is, is it possible to challenge any issues raised against my account on the basis that I informed them of changes to my situation and they where unwilling to change any? Are there any steps I can take now to recover from these issues and rebuild a respectable credit file?

I doubt there is anything you can do now as any late payment markers will be factual and the onus was on you at that time to manage your money better. Also, if the late payment markers are 3 years old, I doubt they would be impacting your credit history at all given the age of them.
All you can do now is make sure you keep up with any monthly repayments and be patient as only time will heal a poor credit history.I'm a Board Guide on the Credit Cards, Loans, Credit Files & Ratings boards. Yeah I thought as much, what's done is done I suppose. Pretty poor of them in the first place, though the blame certainly falls on me. I've signed up with Experian to check my credit score, which has subsequently dropped by a whopping 501 points, but I did read that defaults are cleared after 6 years and delinquent accounts after 7, so hopefully with me meeting all my other payments it should be able to bounce back. I can't see myself taking out a mortgage in that time frame, but I was looking into getting a car soon which would be massively beneficial for work - I'm hoping it doesn't put a blocker on that or I'll be saving for a long time! Edit: the account has actually been paid off and closed for a few months, and I've had no issues with any other payments at all.0

Ignore the scores. They mean nothing, and possibly even not quite that much.
Just ensure that all the data is correct on all your files.0
