2k bike is not "very expensive" in the bike world lol thought you were going to be talking about 5k+ pro level bikes. 2k is higher end sure but not out of the realms of amateur level (I could give you a link to any half decent bike shop selling 150+ bikes more expensive than that).

What you'll need is a home insurer that either has high / unlimited single item cover or get proper bike insurance from someone like Cycleguard, Evans, Wiggle, ETA, Cyclecover, Bikemo etc - link below to various plans offering the level you need. You should make sure the bikes are secured with gold rated locks when out if leaving unattended (brand approved by the insurer may be required) and secured at home.

I have 2 of mine insured for about £3600 with £25 excess and £500 accessory cover for about £300 (1 bike is about 14 months old with upgraded gears and wheels) and other is less than a year. The cheaper one that is approaching 2 1/2 years old I would claim on home insurance

Oh and get yourself a membership of British Cycling or equivalent for £10m of third party liability cover as it'll be cheaper than through the insurer (was quoted about £36 for 5m of cover and BC do £10m of cover for £30)

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

  • Have you checked a Direct Line home plus policies, I think they would include a bike of that kind of value for free.

Most premium insurers still limit bikes to £1k each, including Direct Line Home Plus.

Hiscox would do it. Their standard cover includes unlimited bicycle cover at home, and £3,500 per bike away from the home. However, they are the premiumiest of premium home insurers, so the quote may be more than your quotes for normal house insurance plus specialist bike insurance. Worth a try though:

  • I have my bikes covered by Co-op insurance.

I am sure CTC do insurance too which might be more relevant.

Seems they have a limit of £1k per bike included.

I'm sure my circumstances are not unique in that I don't have home insurance and I have no idea if the insurance my partner has (she owns the house in full, nothing to do with me) covers me for anything like that, their (Endsleigh I think she is with) website says they limits to £1m anyway. BC membership offers £10m of liability directly related to cycling injuries and has other benefits like 10% off at Halfords/Chain Reaction cycles
