Virgin Media Unfair Charges

I have been a customer of Virgin Media for over ten years now and have never had any real problems with them... until I tried to leave.

I called in September to change some of my services. I dropped the TV form my package. They offered me upgraded broadband at the same time and said it would actually cost me less. It did! Thanks Virgin Media! However, what they didn't tell me at the time was that doing so (and I've since found that just dropping the TV would do the same) would enter me into a new year long contract.

5 months later and I am now moving house to an area that Virgin Media do not service. This means that because I unknowingly entered into a contract with them they are trying to charge me a £208 exit fee!

I have spoken to a number of people at their 'customer service' centres all of whom say that a letter sent from them (I never received one) is proof of the contract being entered into. One manager told me that if I cancelled the direct debit they could not take the money from my account, but I am worried about the legal implications of that.

Does anyone have any advice?

Yes new deal new contract perfectly normal .
Your fault if you move out of a service area not VMs .
Pay what you owe to exit the contract is the easy answer avoids trashed credit records and debt collectors .
