Inflation, Inflation, Inflation...

Today I read that Warren buffet has bought big into US airlines ..And as far as my sniffing around tells me.. airlines only really make money when fuel is cheap .
I would deduce from Mr Buffets behaviour that we won't see high oil again, maybe even $50 a barrel is high oil.

It is widely-thought that oil prices will not rise much above $50 until after the turn of the decade.

wotsthat though personally wants to see it increase significantly - presumably because he doesn't like some of the positive economic data coming out of the UK since the referendum.
In the UK an such an increase would lead to inflation as (for example) transport costs of goods increase significantly.
wotstat calls the pound's readjustment a "collapse"; there are threads about this already but at the beginning of the year, prior to the referendum the exchange rate hovered around GBP1 = 1.43USD
Today GBP1 = 1.25USD
A fall of approximately 12.5% - hardly a "collapse" and as stated in other threads, an adjustment which is of benefit to the UK economy.
Latest forecasts suggest a higher pound (along with the US dollar) and a lower Euro.

Though I suspect this will mean little to some - they will still grumble.
Indeed they MUST grumble - because they will not accept Brexit regardless of how the economy performs.
They don't want Brexit, end of.
Which is why they want inflation - which so far is under control.0 -

I want fuel prices to rise so consumption falls and accelerates us into the electric age. Using diesel to transport goods & people is starting to look somewhat primitive especially when a reduction in CO2 is a stated priority.
I don't much care if you want to call the post referendum collapse in sterling a re-adjustment or a welcome boost to the nations' exporters. It's a fact sterling is at multi decade lows and dropped significantly post 23rd June.
On a thread about inflation I think it's worth a mention. I apologise if you don't consider me sufficiently patriotic. I'll go and do some flag worshipping later if you like.0 -

So your post looks like prevarication to me.
As for emissions and your desired electric age - it is already happening; I suggest you read more.
Look at VW plans just for example.
Or Tesla if you want current instead of planned.
You're also disregarding the major change in attitudes that would be needed globally - by far larger populations than the UK or even europe - before benefits of reduced emissions would have any serious effect.
By all means continue in your implied eco-friendly vein but at least have the good grace to cease the unnecessary derogatory footnotes, eh?0 -

I need to read more in case I haven't heard about VW or Tesla plans? You are funny - I know it's happening - this is just the start. In 20 years time talking about a BMW that can do 25 miles on a charge will be seen in the same class of wonder as an electric milk float is now.
I can only affect my own behaviour so don't worry much about an American that 'needs' a 5 litre pickup to collect the shopping from Wal-Mart. $300 oil would change their behaviour much quicker than me lecturing them.A_Medium_Size_Jock wrote: »By all means continue in your implied eco-friendly vein but at least have the good grace to cease the unnecessary derogatory footnotes, eh?
Errr.. What's with the implied. People in glass houses.0 -

Again, kindly desist from "unnecessary derogatory footnotes," such as "glass houses" as I requested above; it adds little to debate.
And only confirms the apparent desperate tone of your posts.0 -

$300 oil isn't going to happen though is it?
So your plan B is ...........??????
Looks to me like Jock is right & i didn't see him claiming eco-friendliness, so you are beginning to look like you have an attitude problem.
You just sound like you're desperately trying to justify the unjustifiable IMHO.0 -

You highlighted the word 'implied' because you intended it to be read as 'he's probably lying about that' and then, without any apparent self awareness suggested I stop making derogatory remarks.0 -

Nice to meet you Jock's mum.
What exactly is the unjustifiable thing I'm trying to justify? That you paying an extra £50 for a tank of fuel might not be the worst thing to ever happen?0 -

The word "implied" was highlighted & was used to draw attention to the highlighting used in the sentence above, nothing more.
Now since I at least have no desire to exhibit the attitude of a spoilt child having the last word, I will refrain from further discussion upon this matter.
ETA - hello mum!
According to wotsthat you're here ........... which could prove to be very interesting.
I must let the hospital know that something has gone seriously wrong.
Or right, maybe ...................0
