Another second hand car issue...

Hi and thanks for your post.
Yep, knowing how these things work is useful and my expectations are for at least 6 months minimum.
Did you go through any dispute resolution at all? If so, was it useful?
The Citizens Advice Consumer Helpline have advised me to stop using the car immediately because if I continue to drive it I am "accepting the car"...which could cause problems later especially if I am rejecting it...which I am.
I think these traders kind of hope that you don't go down the legal route as it's so much hassle and headache, this is what they are counting on.
I'm just sick of being ripped off by folk....and I want to put an end to it.0 -
go outside, look at your daddys car (but anybodies car will do).
make a note of the manufacturer and reg number.
go to https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history.
then face palm when you see that the government website gives every bit of relevant information that op needs without being pushed on to a website that wants to sell you 'extras' which are no good to op
daddy is actually dead so is mummy, maybe i should face palm you? its sad really that a link posted in a topic can cause someone so much distress, the op does not have to purchase anything on that site in order to get info.
i won't be back on this thread because i will end up really getting offensive with 2 posters and i really do struggle to be politically correct.
To the op :- i apologise for your thread becoming messy with tit for tat off topic posts, i really do hope you get this sorted and have a happy ending0 -
Thanks
Will see what happens, i'm connecting up with folk on Facebook who have bought from there so hopefully will get somewhere soon.
Thanks for the info as well

Sorry to butt in, but arcon5, the gov website that you posted doesn't alway show up any details, or at least in Northern Ireland, where i presume Ian is from. When i use the one you linked to i get "No vehicle that matched the data you entered could be found", yet the tax checker shows that MOT is valid, and the website that NotRichAtAll posted works also. So why try to start an argument when all that Ian cares about it getting some advise.
Anyway Ian, what did trading standards say regarding this? The guy on facebook, is he having the same issues, if so both contacting and putting pressure on Trading standards might force an investigation, or at least say to the dealer thats the road you're going down.
As for the missing salesman....although thats who you spoke to, you purchased from the company, so the company owner is responsible for anything that is sold.
Maybe some of the more legally minded people might know more about this, but even if he did close shop, can a civil case still be taken out against the owner for allowing clocked cars to be sold?
Maybe even say to him, thats fine, you're going to stand outside his premises and tell everyone that you bought a car there and you found out the milage had been clocked, and they are denying your legal rights (just be careful the way you word it though and don't say or imply that the dealer themselves clocked it, as that may not be the, and you definitely don't want to be sued yourself). Again, some of the legal experts might be able to give a bit more advice on this tactic.0
