Another second hand car issue...

  • Hi, yes done a HPI check all sorted there.

It's not been written off, reported stolen, no outstanding finance or plate changes. I do have to provide information on the chassis number, current mileage, etc as there are no current mileage discrepancies recorded.

I've not done any VIN matches on the car yet, that is my next job today if the rain bothers itself to stop.

    Local dealer = yes
    Reputable.... = clearly not

There are many adverse reviews on Google about them. I've already reached out to a couple of other folk on Facebook who have left less than favourable reviews on their Facebook page.

It's a Vauxhall Astra Estate, first registered in 2011.

i also purchased a vauxhall but got an insignia 2011 with lots of buttons :) love it 2lt diesel £30 year tax cost me 5K
i had 1 minor discrepancy with mine and that is the v5 had it down as an elite model when in fact its an exclusive model, the dealer is sorting this for me and my new v5 document should have the correct identity of the car on it when i get.

Now you have said its 2011 registered it would of had its first mot in 2014 (as you have stated 30th sept) new cars don't get mot's for the 1st 3 years of their life.
Adt probably used it as fleet vehicle for 3 years then sold it on as you have pointed out .
You need to be looking at what or who had the vehicle between the time of sale in belfast and the time you purchased it dec 2015. how long has the dealer had it and where/when did he get it? question's you really should of asked when viewing the car.

hope you get it sorted without it getting too nasty
  • it down as an elite model when in fact its an exclusive model

    Are you sure about that?

    Are you sure about that?

yes 100% i gave vauxhall my registration and vin number prior to purchase and asked them if they would clarify what spec model it was.
elite comes with full leather interior heated seats front fogs and alot more than mine
  • really!!
the total car check site give's him the history of all mot's and failures if any

    So does the DVLA site
  • Are you sure about that?
    yes 100%

My query was that Vauxhaul don't have an "exclusive" spec. They do however have an "exclusiv"

How could I have hijacked the thread when I was responding directly to something that you had written?

Anyway, it would take more that a semi-literate keyboard warrior such as yourself to offend me.
  • Don't argue folks :)

But yep, I understand the 2014 MOT would be the first MOT shown as cars don't need them for 3yrs but it's the ONLY MOT shown...there should've been another one displayed, i.e. the current one but it's not there at all.

All of these things I should've checked really before purchasing the vehicle so I do blame myself for the most part however I do feel that as a "dealer" that seemingly has a lot of vehicles going through it on a regular basis, these are also basic checks they should've made before adding the vehicle to their stock.

I'm going ring CAB for more guidance in the morning and also check an MOT test site which was mentioned by the dealer when I went down to see them the other day.

I caught up with a chap on Facebook yesterday who is also having problems with them with a car he bought and informs me that the guy I spoke to yesterday is apparently "missing" according to the owner of the business and is on the missing persons list and is the sole person who can authorise a refund!

Really need to get this place shut down so other people don't get shafted...so out of order.
  • Just to set your expectations, I am currently going down this route with a car I bought way back in September 2015. I found tampering issues and tried to return the car within 48 hours of buying it. The dealer as with yours was not interested at all. I spoke with both CAB and Trading Standards, they both tell me I "should" win the case. However it is a lot of hassle and my case isn't due to be heard in court until April, that 6 months since I started proceedings, then as Shaun of Africa said, there is every chance they could fold as a Ltd company and start again.

I am not saying don't go ahead with court action, but when the dealer says 6 months, it will be that long, so be prepared.

Good luck with whatever you decide.
