A quick add: thanks to everyone who has taken the time and trouble to post here -- much appreciated.

The post from jfdi has proved extremely helpful, seeing as how -- it turns out -- Firefly is a Hertz-owned company and, now that we've actually used the direct link to the firm instead of being side-tracked by aggregators with SEO listings that happen to mention Firefly -- seems a darn sight more professional than many another outfit. This plain English "car hire guide" isn't something that rivals appear to bother providing: https://uk.fireflycarrental.com/Car-Hire-Spain.html.

The honesty of the fuel policy makes a change, too: "With a Full-Full policy, the vehicle is provided with a full tank of fuel and must be returned with a full tank of fuel, otherwise a refuelling service charge of €30 will be applied, in addition to the cost of fuel." Where a hirer complies with the Full-Full policy, then Firefly charges only the pump price of the fuel in the car at the time of collection: "Fuel Rates are strictly calculated based on official pump rates."

We'll get a quote from Firefly now. Thanks again.

I have a property in Murcia area, I use www economycarhire.co.uk
I mostly opt for Solmar or Centaur and take out the extra insurance with economy car hire ( tyres/ screen/ wrong fuel etc).
Solmar are off site but very good cars and very friendly staff.
If you need more info then let me know.
    Been renting since 1992.

The voucher has no legal worth because a promise is not a contract.

If you have paid for the voucher you have a contract, normally with whoever you have paid. They would normally be responsible for any differences between what appears on your voucher and what you receive.
