Cheap LED bulbs

The LED bulbs being discussed are 240V AC bulbs, straight swap replacements for incandescent bulbs or CFLs. No special hardware required.0 -
i have seen them cheap in The Range & Original Factory Shop
also B&Q have them sometimes in clearance lines"If I know I'm going crazy, I must not be insane"0 -
Swipe - if there is a transformer supplying the halogens, then simply swapping them for LED bulbs will not overload the transformer.
If the transformer is supplying say, 6 halogens at 40w each, t6his means the transformer is supplying 6x40w or a total of 240w so I would expect that in this example you can replace the halogens with LED bulbs up to a total wattage of 240 without problems.
Make sure you get the correct voltage bulb and also make sure you get the correct fitting - GU10, MR16 or whatever the halogen bulbs are.
Also a point worth noting is that 220/240v GU10 LED bulbs will fit in a standard bayonet cap bulbholder - or at least they do in this household.0 -

I've been running 3 of the 3 watt bayonets for 14 hours a day for the past 3 months without any failing. So if nothing else that's probably getting close to the lifespan of a typical incandescent bulb.sacsquacco wrote: »I ve also bought 3 of Poppellerants ebay 10 watters in bayonet. At last I can get some proper instant light back where I dont have to wait a week for the energy bulbs to brighten up.
Can't beat an energy saving bulb for a bed side lamp thoughThe last thing I want first thing in the morning is instant illumination.
I have been using these bulbs for what is coming up to two years now and I don't have a single regret about them.
Can you get them in Daylight or Cool white anywhere? I could do with something that bright for my bathroom.0 -

I've used LEDhut and reckon they're worth a look. In my kitchen I had a fluorescent tube and the LED replacement from them uses half the power, comes on instantly and probably more importantly is silent with no flicker.0

Hi all
Just moved into a new house and every single bulb is a good old fashioned incandescent. I can just feel the money rolling out the door...
I need a lot of led bulbs - does anybody know if any discounted places to buy them?
Thanks
Cheap LED's are either a false economy (poor build quality and/or poor performance) and / or emit a poor quality of light.
I'm yet to see a 'cheap' LED on sale that doesn't fit into these categories.
Oh and before you buy from any so called specialist online LED retailer, make sure you put their name into http://trustpilot.co.uk to find out what customers really think of them and their products.0 -
My parents have halogen spotlights. If they bought these LEDs i take it their transformer would need changing or do the LED bulbs have built in converters?
Depends, GU10 fitting LED Spots contain an internal transformer. If you are using GX5.3 (MR16) then you will probably need to fit a specialist transformer to each and every fitting (not every LED transformer is compatible with every LED product).0 -

That aside, I would like to know what you think to these bulbs, sacsquacco. I was very impressed with them when I first tried them. I'd say they are equivalent to 100w bulbs, maybe a shade less.0 -

Just arrived in the post today. They certainly look well made. also bought a couple of the small screw 5 watters from Poundland at a quid each. Same brightness as my other 5 watt leds from Homebase. I don t expect them to last, time will tell but Big Clive was impressed with the circuit layout. Thanks for the info, my last big wattage bayonet LED lasted a couple of weeks only.0
