BT Openreach new development

Hello

We have recently moved in to a new development and are still waiting for BT Openreach to lay the cables into the estate. I have tried to call them to get an update on the situation but could not get through to anybody who would help, they were very rude.

A month later and we are still non the wiser as to when we will be able to get an ISP and I am worried I am going to have to decline a work contract that depends on me having adequate internet access.

Has anybody experienced this before and know who I can contact to move the situation along ? Also is it possible for me to charge open reach for my increased mobile phone bills given that I do not have the option of a landline?

Any advice will be greatly recieved:o

Did your builder specify that a telephone service would be provided ?

Your argument is withheld the development Openreach.

Robin 9, thankyou for your reply :-)

Yes we were told by the developer that BT Infinity would be available. It turns out that BT openreach have actually put in the wrong cables and have still to come back to rectify the problem. Everything has been done from the developers end but the estate as a whole are waiting for Openreach to supply the cables into the area.

The problem is in the main road that leads into the new estate

Openreach don't normally speak to end users/consumers, you pick a communications provider (CP), they are your point of contact, you have no contract with OR and certainly no chance of them compensating you , after all they have never directly offered you service so cannot have failed you in any way, if you have chosen a provider and they have accepted an order for you, then that CP should chase OR on your behalf and keep you updated, that CP would be compensated by OR for any failed date provided the failure was down to OR and not matters beyond their reasonable control,
you could ask the CP to compensate you, after all they would be compensated by OR, if appropriate, if you haven't yet made an order with a CP, nobody has failed you, have you ordered service yet via a CP and been given a date ?
OR newsites do seem useless though and there does seem to be long delays, but these delays may not always be OR's fault

I've experienced it a few times from the ISP's side. No matter who you speak to ISP or Openreach's end you won't be able to influence the speed it is resolved.

There's a third party website i used to use called SamKnows which can give estimates on how long it will take to provide service.

Have you tried placing an order with any ISP's yet?

We moved into a new build and transferred our old number to it, BT gave us a date it would go live. It didnt go live for a couple of weeks after that date and they compensated us.

In your case though you do not have a date to live from any phone provider or company so nobody to claim from. Unless your builder guaranteed the phones and internet will be live on a fixed date.

Probably clauses in the contract if they do give a date, its beyond their control.
