You may be required to exchange your driving licence:

if you commit a traffic offence in the country where you live.
That's correct - several countries in the EU issue licences valid for life - in those cases they cannot be valid longer than the validity of a locally issued licence.
So if a person resident in the UK has a Spanish issued licence then the 70 years old bit kicks in.
Also if you are banned or your licence is cancelled you have a different set of rules to observe.0 -
And, of course the quoted (and highlighted) "...as long as it is valid" is covered by the UK wording explicitly requiring the EU licence to be valid.
The UK is, of course, an EU country, so the standardised EU regs apply just as much here as in any other EU country.0
