I personally would recommend NamesCo's service on an 0845 number
    http://www.names.co.uk/dial-up-internet-access.html

Remember to go into your Friends/Family and add that 0845 number to get a little bit more off (certainly used to be able to, havent checked recently). In BT's latest prices: 2p/weekday6-6 and 0.5p/rest-of-week plus that 6p connection fee I think but I haven't 100% got on top of their latest attempt to confuse/befuddle the customer - their latest price list is as clear as mud re all the rounding/connection/etc fees.

I think you'll find 0844 numbers are now more expensive but it's a wade in treacle to try to work it all out

    PS:
Had a good wade through the BT price list and calls to 0845 will, with VAT it seems:
    a. Cost the 2p/minute during Mon-Fri 6-6, but 0.5p rest of day
and PROBABLY weekend too BUT the price list fails to mention Sat/Sun price ?!?!
    b. Time will be rounded UP to next minute.
    c. Cost will be rounded UP to next 0.5p/1.0p
    d. Be subject to a 6.0p call setup fee <<<<= real sting, ie make LONG calls not LOTS
