Recycling Companies

Anybody had any good, or bad, experiences with Mobile Recyclers?

Today I've had an email back from Mobile Cash Mate - who came out top of the recommended list on MobileValuer.com.

I posted a Google Nexus 6 32Gb to them on Wednesday after they kindly offered me £155 for it - the best price by a tenner. I wrapped it securely in their bubblewrap, then placed it inside a suitable cardboard box, then sent it in their recycle enveloped.

The email I've received today states that the back casing is loose and slightly lifting up on the right side. They've rescinded their original offer and have now offered £77.50.

The issue is simple. I took photographs of my phone at every stage of its packaging before I sent it, as I once had an iPad mysteriously develop a dent at the bottom that wasn't there when I sent it to a recycler.

I've declined the reworked offer from MobileCashMate, and I've advised them I have proof of the phone's condition when sent. They're returning the phone to me. I await it with eager anticipation.

Basically, I wouldn't advise using them - they're offering the best initial price to get you to send the hardware, then hoping you'll give in to their poor second offer.

From now on I'm sticking to Mazuma or Envirofone - at least you know you won't get ripped off, even though they may not offer the best price.

  • I've had the phone returned to me today, and indeed the back casing is slightly raised on the right side. I've checked the original photographs and this wasn't the case when the phone was despatched.

Worryingly though, there is a small silver mark on the body of the phone in the exact place where the back casing has raised, which indicates that it's been prised. A little pressure to the area in question has resulted in the back going back into place and staying there.

Not one for conspiracy theories. I'm just staying away from Mobile Cash Mate, and I'd advise the rest of you to do the same.

Most already do. At least you got the phone back, mate.
  • Just to post the final resolution to this story...

Envirofone email received this morning to state that the phone passed device testing successfully and they've processed the full payment, which was only £10 less than Mobile Cash Mate (but a lot more than their revised offer).

Use Mobile Cash Mate at your peril!
