New York with Aer Lingus but KLM now significantly cheaper

Hi All, I'm after some advice but I'm not sure if anything can be done. Basically after a year of saving up my hubby and I are taking his 14 year old daughter with us to New York in July 2016. I was advised to book flights early and did so 2 days ago with Aer Lingus as they had the best deal at £2,228 for the three of us. I did check KLM but they were at over £2,800.
This morning I had an email from KLM advertising a sale and the price has now dropped to £1,062 for all three of us!!! That's a difference of £1,165!!
I called Aer Lingus to ask about cancelling the flights but they said they would only refund a total of £417 from the original £2,228.
It just doesn't seem fair! What are my options? Do I just have to "suck it up"? :(
Good wine needs to breathe, if it stops breathing try mouth to mouth.

Unless you booked a refundable ticket you have no right to a refund.

£700 is an insane amount for economy to New York in July. Next time post on here for advice before booking.

£1062 is too cheap for 3 for July peak season.

Start reading the New York thread and planning for a great trip.
Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.

Frustrating, especially when you have been saving for this, but the best advice is once you have booked a flight, don't look at prices afterwards. Sadly it's a case of you win some, you lose some.

Too cheap? It's no more than I'd expect to pay in a sale for indirect flights.

I cannot see any of the special deals during July (maybe there was the odd seat that has now gone)
NCL-NYC - £915 per person July (£390 per person some dates in June and August)
    MAN-NYC - £920 per person July
    GLA-NYC - £914 per person July
    LON-NYC- £869 per person July
(not that it matters but may make you feel better)

Many airlines offer free cancellation if you book direct with them and then cancel within 24 hours of booking
Outwith that time period, the fare rules of the ticket apply
In the case of EI NCL-NYC you can purchase an economy refundable/flex ticket for £1,377 per person which would allow a refund on cancellation
