    Hi everyone, OP here.

Now please feel free to return to your spirited class-war banter :)

good luck with your planning Comrade Forumite :D:beer:
In the spirit of fraternal Socialist cooperation, can I suggest that you also look at flying from Dublin ? Our Irish brothers in the fight against Capitalist pigdog oppression can sometimes charge a lot fewer roubles for flights (markedly so if you choose to fly in the Zil lane that is reserved for Party Members).
Plus, you don't have to mix with the proletariat in Cattle Class, which is always good :D:beer::D:beer:

I don't care what you or anyone else thinks about me finding it amusing. OK?

VT82 we have always travelled with our children, since they too were just months old.

It's much the same as being anywhere else for 11 hours - have them plenty food, drinks and toys and you will be fine :D

Hope you decide to go ahead and you all have a great trip x

    Just go!!

I don't have children and always panic when I see them in the same queue I am in (from one awful experience). However I would NEVER complain about the little one screaming/crying IF the parents are doing everything they can to help to calm them. I'd probably even offer to help myself if it seemed reasonable to do so.

I was once on a flight though where the parents fell asleep and the baby was next to them screaming. This did not amuse me at all.

What have you decided to do?

Not exactly money saving (please move it is necessary), but...

My partner and I have a 6 month old baby. One of us wants to take him with us on a long-haul flight to America to see an elderly relative in April when he will be 9 months old. One of us thinks this is far too young to take a baby on a long haul flight. We wouldn’t go without him obviously.

I’m deliberately trying not to put in too much detail which could sway you either way, but who do you agree with? Would it be fine? Is an 11 hour flight too long? Is 9 months too young for air travel? And if so, at what age should we be thinking about it?

    Thanks.

Actually 9 months old is a good age to be going on a long haul flight. Not walking, less wriggly, less whingy and sleeps more. :)

I'm taking my 18 month old on a flight to San Diego in March and dreading it. He doesn't sit still, he whinges so there will be a lot of walking up and down the aisles meeting lots of new 'friends'. :)

    As for taking kids on planes and disturbing others i think there are some things to note;

    1) People forgot they are on public transport. Especially those in premium cabins. Your child has as much right to be on that plane as anyone else.

    2) Life is too short. What are you going to do not travel to see and experience important things because a few intolerant people might get all moody for a few hours? No, live life.

    3) As long as you are respectful to those around you and do everything you can to limit the disturbance to other passengers if the baby / child starts crying/screaming/being a PIA then you'll find the majority of people really don't mind. There are kids of young ages on every flight, it's the norm and people are used to it.

    4) Baby/Child gets what baby/child wants on a plane. :D Its the one place where i adopt this policy and it really helps. If you have an iPad, lots of cartoons, tv shows etc really help, as does food and snacks. My son sits really still whilst eating an apple and takes ages to do it, so he eats lots of apples on planes :rotfl:

Another thing is the more your stress the more the child stresses. It's important to relax and be calm no matter what.

    Have a great trip, :T
