Still prefer When we were orphans, if you've not read that one.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Just dropping in to say I found the most delightful book on the charity table at Tesco. I'm about halfway through so far but am loving it so much I don't want to read it quickly and end the pleasure:rotfl:

It's Invitation to the Waltz by Rosamond Lehmann, written in the 1930s but set in 1920. I love that period of relatively recent historical fiction, anything from immediately pre-WW1 to about 1950.

It's beautifully written, an absolute joy:j. I can't believe my luck in discovering this writer after a few false-starts with some other 'new to me' ones I've tried recently;).

I hated "Never Let Me Go", VfM4meplse
I did read all of it - it took me 3 weeks + though (I don't like to be beaten by a book)!

I am so looking forward to tonight. Chatham Library has managed to book Peter James author of the 'Roy Grace ' books and he is giving a talk tonight. Our book club bagged tickets for us, and twice someone from the Library has phoned to ask if I still want to go as there is a waiting list :) plus I don't even have to drive as I'm getting a lift.I have read virtually all of his book and really enjoyed them so hopefully tonight should be good .I'm reading a weird book at the moment called City of the Lost by Kelley Armstrong. Not bad but just a bit odd :)

Lucky you, JackieO:T. I'm green with envy.

I love the Roy Grace books, although I'm fairly new to them so still have the pleasure of lots yet to read:j

    Have a great evening:beer:

JackieO - you lucky thing! I'm half-way through his latest "Love You Dead" and it shouldn't take long to finish it, he's doing shorter chapters than James Patterson in this one! Don't know why (still enjoyable though).
    Normal people worry me.

Absolutely brilliant evening I thoroughly enjoyed his talk ,very amusing man and the library was packed out, even had a free cuppa :):) no charge for the talk either so a nice night out put on by the library local council to encourage folk to use the new 'community hub' that our council are turning all our libraries into.
as my Mum always said cheap is good butfre is better:):):)
Well worth checking your local council website to see whats available

Going to spend half an hour this evening selecting my holiday readiing. This is the first time I have ever planned a "do nothing" trip but I am looking forward to reading non-stop when not amusing our little princess. I shall aim for 6 thick books in 14 days, as I have a habit of getting distracted / fnding stuff to do.
