Royal mail's recorded delivery service is a joke

you cant win,you get people moaning when you do and others moan when you dont
I wasn't "moaning" as you put it, just stating a fact. My point was why should the sender pay a fee to make sure that the item they were posting was being received by the person it was intended for when the postman signed the receipt. They are not getting the service that they paid for. Also it could have put us in a very awkward position if we had not received the packet (it being left on the doorstep for anyone to take - house deeds for goodness' sake!). The sender would just say that they had a signed receipt that the deeds had been delivered so "tough", we must have got them.
I personally would never ask my postman to sign for something if I was not there.0 -

as i said it shouldnt have been doorstepped.many people are happy to get the item signed for as its saves a trip to the DO given RD items are kept for only 7 days.
as i said what suits one doesnt suit another.
its a judgement call and officially is not allowed0 -
price is not an issue for me, i would be more than willing to pay the additional to make sure an item arrived.
when i spoke to the royal mail they could not tell me when the item was mailed, but according to the above i should be able to get a Proof of posting
or is my Proof of posting the orange counterpart
proof of posting is available to the sender.eg they take it to the post office and get it there and then.
given you can put an RD item straight in the post box how do you think it could be monitored?
i feel your issue is with the sender.if you wanted full tracking and price wasnt an issue then you wanted special delivery. anyone can go into the post office and pick up an RD label.i could then give you that number and say thats what i sent without sending it.
hence the prrof of posting proves the tracking number and delivery address
the 2 services are there and give customers a choice.
the features of both are laid out as above0 -

People like you won't be happy until were all wearing clogs and eating smelly sausages...
we shall see dave.if only the customers could see the true farce of the UK's 'open' postal service(we are the olny country in europe to open our markey early)
RM is forced to offer downstream access to companys like TNT.
so for a set (low!) fee we sort the mail then the likes of TNT coolect and deliver it!
eg TNT deliver to a local firm from my office.
we sort the mail for them box it up and it goes in a trolley.
the TNT guy comes in and collects ,drives it to the drop off and that it.
RM does the bulk of the work but gets less money. yet is not allowed to undercut TNT!
as i said i could go on but it would take pages.0 -
When we paid off our mortgage, the original deeds to our property were returned to us by the mortgage lender using the recorded delivery service.
We found the parcel on the doormat when we arrived home that evening - the peel off barcode strip had been removed but obviously we had not signed to say we received it. It turns out the postman signed it himself because there was no-one home:rolleyes:
Yes ive found this lately, dont why they couldnt just go to one of the neighbours and leave it with them till the recipient gets homeNo Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20 -

i understand what your saying but if an item was sent RD, the oranage label should have been stamped by the post office recieving the parcel or letter.0 -

I have actually had a discussion with someone from Royal Mail about the fact that despite the fact that Recorded Delivery is not a trackable service, you are still given a 'tracking' number and the service on their website is called 'track and trace'. As I was only trying to ascertain whether something had reached the recipient or not, I wasn't too bothered, but I did point out that it was at best a poor choice of language, and at worst actively misleading to call both services 'Track and Trace' on the website when the actual service was so drastically different!
So OP - I do see your point, but I can also see the beauty of just having an item delivered without having to get up at the crack of dawn on a Saturday to collect it from the sorting office!0
