Actually, contact cleaner is just the thing but it must be the sort that's labelled "No Residue".0 -

I used carb cleaner on maf sensor in wife's mr2, worked a treat. Let it dry over night.0

Carbon cleaning can help, as long as the problem is caused by carbon build up. If it's a dirty maf it will be of little help.0

Took it to a indie garage who seems to think that clutch is failing and needs replacing with or without some DMF thingy.
They are quoting £350 just for clutch replacement but another 400 if that DMF needs to be changed as well0 -
