Stupid question of the day - heating broken down - kitty OK?

Totally unacceptable, poor thing - I would 'rescue' him in a heartbeat... in fact send him to me immediately - or I'll report you to the RSPCA0

Kitty will be fine. Might hate you for a year or two, never forgetting how you left him a bit nippy for awhile once.... but that'll be the end of it.
Kitty is a wild animal, with thousands of years of evolution behind him to keep him warm in his FUR COAT.
Reality is, if he had the brains to think it all through, he'd be laughing at you as you can't cope as well as he can.... and he'd probably plot a way to "milk it" by miaowing to get extra treats.0 -
My childhood cat had a little outdoor 'bunker' in our open porch, in the winter we used to put a hot water bottle under an old coat for him. Sometimes you'd open the back door to see if he wanted to come in and he'd hang his head out the bunker, as it to say I'm alright, and would curl back up again. Mind you, our house had no central heating anyway and was bitterly cold inside in the winter (ice frozen on the inside of the windows most mornings), so we were all pretty used to the cold as well as the cat.Make £2025 in 2025

I love that pic - it needs a caption though! how about
'yes its my best side'! what a beautiful characterful cat!
OH will NEVER have the heating on after bedtime - so Barnes has the plumpest feather pillow at the bottom of the bed - but he usually prefers the windowsill or the landing. mind you - he is a 'fluffy Persian'!0 -

I'm in awe of the fact that he 'lets' you clip his claws.3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -

It's a two person job - one to hold him firmly and one to clip. And it has to be followed up with a whole handful of Dreamies. :rotfl:
But as he's a kneader it's essential or my stomach gets covered in pin pricks!
Oh, and don't let his cuteness fool you. He is THE most affectionate cat with humans (wants attention ALL the time), but absolutely hates all other cats. In rescue, as a kitten, he was put in solitary because he kept attacking the other kittens! And the rescue won't home another cat to us while we have him.
Sadly, we've had to make him indoor-only as another tom moved in next door a year ago and after six months of being at the vet every 3-4 weeks to have fight wounds patched up, we just couldn't let him out any more.He loves to fight but he always loses (dozy thing!) and gets hurt.
On balance, he's a cat who doesn't mind staying in (I know some won't tolerate it at all), we give him lots of attention and play, and I'd have felt terrible if he got more seriously hurt.
So, yes, this is our big horrible bully cat:0 -
He is the lushest furry baby.
I clip my ginger cats claws, can brush her teeth and wipe her nose and everything. Black cat - not so much. I get ripped to shreds if I touch her feet. So kudos to you for that.
Please please be careful if giving him a hotwater bottle - you can pick up self heating pads in home bargains for pets that are much safer! Or leave your dressing gown somewhere for him to cuddle into. When mine are cold they squish themselves into cardboard boxes - Abel and Cole ones are good because they come with wool inserts that keep cold things cold and hot things hot.
He might be hungrier than normal too - so plenty of treats and cuddles. I love him I think that cat is gorgeous.Back in the red :mad:

Of course, some of us are old enough to remember when central heating was highly unusual, and a two bar electric fire was the height of luxury in a bedroom, put on for a few minutes while dressing or undressing! The cats survived ...
Blimey. Luxury in your house. We had no heating at all upstairs apart from a 1 bar fire in the bathroom, and the hot water tank was so small you couldn't get more than 4 inches deep of water you'd want to bathe in.
