How do I switch contracts, taking number?
My current Orange contract ends in 29 days.
I have rung Orange to give them the required 30 days notice to terminate the contract.
I also wish to take my number with me so requested a PAC code.
They advised me that the PAC code would be valid for only 30 days from today, and that it can take a new company up to 7 days to switch the number.
But how do I switch to a new contract without losing 7 days of my current contract? Or is there no alternative?
The way it looks, is that I have to wait until about 1 week or 10 days before the end of my contract and then arrange a new contract with a new provider. At some point they switch and my new contract starts, probably before my existing contract ends. Hence I lose some of my existing contract.
Is this the normal way, or am I getting something wrong?
Cheers,
Don

If you have asked for your contract to be cancelled in 29 days, you don't have any options do you.

If I "cancel" a contract and request a PAC is that finito or can I change my mind??
THe reason I ask is that folks fishing for the best offers seem to imply you cancel and get the PAC, and then wait for the company to grab your hand off for a new contract.
I am getting an N95 (somehow! I think tHe P4U 12 mo deal as 3 offers are pants) but want to keep the current 3 phone for DH. THe £5/month three are offering now is Okaay ish but I'd like it to be a bit better really:rotfl:
So do I cancel and then "change my mind" before the 30 days expire or what?

You don't normally cancel AND request a PAC. If you ask for your contract to be cancelled, you would expect them to do it wouldn't you. If you ask for a PAC, you don't have to give it to another network and they may, if they think that you are worth keeping (spend enough) offer you a better deal to stay. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
