Triple glazing quote

Hi all,
I am looking to get new windows in my house. I had a guy from the advanced group in who gave us a quote for 10 triple glazed windows and triple glazed French doors at £7,500.
We told him we would think about it as we have other companies coming out in the next two days and he's suggested we go to the showroom to view their stock and he'll work on the price.
So you guys think this is a good quote? I'm hoping to knock it down a bit if I do go to the showroom!
I got 8 triple glazed windows for a semi-detached house @ £3000. I say your being ripped off.0 -

Smithb,
You are being ripped off. Depends what the triple glazing consists of, but even if you were offered laminated glass inside and oustide, this still sounds a bit pricy to me.
Depends on the area you stay, but in Edinburgh you would roughly price a window between £450 - £500. Glasgow is a little bit cheaper.
By writing Advanced Window i assume you must be staying in or about Glasgow, therefore I would imagine you could knock down the price to about £4000.
Make sure to have your guaratee in writing and ask for your invoice as well (this might lead to another discount - cash price).
Also in my opinion triple glazing is not worth the price unless you are looking to soundproof your house (in which double glazed accoustic glass is a better option). A typical triple glazed window will present a U-value of between 0.8 - 1.0, depends on what profile is being used. Double glazing would provide an overall u-value of 1.0 - 1.4, again depending on the profile. Money wise - you're talking between £5 - £15 roughly per year.
Also don't be fooled about virgin plastic. Basically, the industry is regulated to use a certain amount of recycled plastic, which will be found in EVERY window manufactured now. If someone is selling their windows as virgin plastic, feel free to inform trading standards.
If you've got any further questions about Double Glazing, please do not hesitate to contact me.:beer:0 -
AFAIK . All triple glazing . middle pane is toughened , we do it always a standard . can other people as their manufactures if they do the same . The reason is the vacuum can break the middle pane . I use K-Seal on Merseyside . I/they might be getting bolloxed but its appeared here on MSE a few times now. hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0

Why don't you consider a double glazing with acoustic panels like this:
3.3 acoustic / 15 gas / 3.3 acoustic low-E
It's cheaper than triple glazing and the result it's quite the same!0
