We went on river cruise in 2014 and loved it, however quite pricey but that was for our 40th Wedding Anniversary.
We've been to Italy a few times on tours and enjoyed them. However, you spend a lot of time on the coach.
We like being looked after so any ideas from anyone? The tour aspect we like as they take you to the places you should see, but we would rather have a fewer trips on the coach, but not every day, plus of course you are paying for that.

If it were me and I am not being funny here but I'd be looking for some lively areas to go to with the numerous bars and so on, Have you thought about a normal cruise then seeing as you liked the river one. ?
For me I would be partying still but then I don't want to get older you know.

We like coach tours, but like some free time.
One of the best tours we've done was Archer's Direct Tour of Turkey.Member #14 of SKI-ers club

DH wouldn't go on a sea cruise, I had to twist his arm to go on the river cruise. Yes we don't mind lively but not youngsters vomiting in the street etc. We don't like the middle of nowhere either.0 -
We've been on many coach tours, USA and Europe, but one of the best was with Leger when we stayed in Menton next door to the Italian border. Excursions included Monaco and Cannes which didn't require too much travelling.0

Why not fly to a really nice hotel in the Italian lakes and use the ferries to see the various resorts. You could do both Lake Garda and Lake Como if you do a week in each.0

I also recommend Leger - great variety of tours and will pick you up locally0

There are a number of holidays offering three or four nights in one place before moving on to others. Saga and Archers have them.Member #14 of SKI-ers club

Going on a Shearings Holidays 4 night mid-weeker coach trip to Tenby on Monday, and ditto the following week to Torquay. Local pick-up, and great vfm. Just hope we don't get lumbered with any old grumblers, and their need to tell usl about their medication and health problems.
Nice inexpensive fillers-in, in between more demanding destinations.0 -
yet again (boring, sorry) I am going to suggest a cruise.
Sorry twist DH's arm again- he liked the river, now try the sea!!!
Only unpack once and no luggage limit if sailing from GB port, lots of "local" departures- or fly cruise.
Wake up to a new port!
Loads of things to do aboard- no need to sit in a seat all day.
Excursions either bought from the ship or DIY
Looked after? Absolutely- lovely cabin staff and waiters and wonderful food.
If you are not great sailors then pick a time of year when the seas round UK are calmer ( and pack Stugeron & pressure bands)
Cruise to the Baltic has some fascinating ports and if near end June you get wonderful light evenings, or if you want almost guaranteed sunshine head for the Med in summer. For stunning scenery it has to be Norway but the weather.......who knows??Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

The train service along the French Riviera is good. You could easily base yourself at one of the resorts and do day trips. St Tropez is not easily accessible by train though.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0
