NOKIA 735 in washing machine

My Nokia 735 went in the washing machine.

After fully drying when I charge it the screen lights up for a few seconds with the batter and then goes off.

Is it likely that the phone has had it or the battery needs replacing.

Many thanks

Lu

How long did you dry it for and did you take the battery out before drying? Several days in a warm place immersed in a bowl of rice is the usual recommendation. Does the phone show to be charging briefly when you plug it in?
You can test the battery output with a multimeter.
What usually happens is that the residual moisture absorbed corrodes the circuit board after a while and the phone ceases to function.
Next time wash on 30C only...

Might be worth sticking it in a bowl of rice (or probably better in crystal/silica gel cat litter) for a couple of days to try and dry it more but if its not working after you've already tried to dry it out, its probably kaput. Like macman posted, the moisture tends to corrode the insides if you don't manage to dry it out properly.

The best mobile I had that fell out my shirt pocket twice and got submerged was a Blackberry Pearl 3G, battery out and 5 mins under a electric hand drier...still working almost 6 years later!

Should always use a hair dryer in every open space available on a phone for a few 5 minute sessions letting it cool down between blasts as the heat can damage it, never hold the hair dryer more than a inch closer to openings as that is immense heat that can damage as much as water. Generally when your screen stops fogging up on the inside you have dried it out.

If you power up a phone and it's not fully dried out you will kill it stone dead.

Top tip don't wash your phone!

  • It's probably too late now but i used this stuff called Revive-a-phone. It was on dragon's den, work really well and my phone is still going strong, despite a dip in the loo! I am new so i cannot put a link, but i got it from a place called Replacebase online. :-) .... they sell batteries too! ;-)
