About 8 years ago they worked near to the weighing in motion sites. At the time it wasn't type approved for enforcement. I don't know if it is yet, but they were on the look out for vehicles already suspected to be overweight having hit one of the sites.

Not only do DVSA have the power to stop & inspect vehicles, they also have the power to issue fixed penalty notices &, if the offence warrants it, points on your licence.

They always had the power to take enforcements action but had to summons you. They can also prohibit your vehicle if it presents imminent danger to other road users.
