Vodafone Broadband - mis-sold?

I am writing to share my experience of being sold Vodafone Broadbandand Home Phone as I am concerned at the approach that was taken by Vodafone.

Background

In the couple of weeks before Christmas I received a call from a salesperson working for Vodafone offering me a preferential rate on VodafoneBroadband on the basis I am an existing customer and have been for a number ofyears. The sales person asked about myexisting provider and then ran through the terms that would apply if I were toswitch to Vodafone. These were:

· I would keep my existing fixed line number, and
· I would receive a 50% discount to the broadbandcost for 12 months.

My concern

I have received the written contract from Vodafone which states that my fixed line number will change and makes no mention of the discounted broadbandrate. On receipt of the letter I calledcustomer services and was given the followingresponse:

· My fixed line number could not be transferred asit is a Virgin Media number – my current provider was known to the salesperson. I said it would cause aninconvenience to change my fixed line number and was offered an apology over the phone with customer services saying they could understand it was frustrating but there was nothing they could do.

· The customer services team would not knowwhether the discount would apply to my broadband account until the first billhad been sent out. I said that the contract should state any discount.

The only possible route of resolution provided by the customerservices team was to cancel the broadband order so now I am left with no broadband and phone plus have potentially lost my old phone number unless my old provider can reinstate it.

It seems a real mess and like mis-selling to me. Anyone else had a similar experience with Vodafone broadband? suggestions?

Had a similar call to take up Vodafones BB, i wont signup to anything from a random sales call but listened to their sales speil and after a while i just said im in an 18 month contract that i had only recently taken out.

Unless they are willing to cough up the cancellation fees which will be virtually full price then offer me a deal thats cheaper then no point in changing.

If people stop accepting deals from random sales calls maybe they will call less? or have i had one too many?

Cancel the Voda order and remain with VM-presumably you have not cancelled that service already?
If the number originated with VM, rather than an older BT-sourced number, it may not be portable, and the agent would not have known that for sure. But then a cold calling rep is not concerned with that, but with his commission, and told you what you wanted to hear.
You are aware that switching from a VM cable service to ADSL will require a BT based line being provisioned or reconnected? Your VM cable line will be redundant.
