will i have to speak to anyone if i sign up for online banking?

i have been thinking about signing up to online banking considering i haven't done so. it would be very useful as well, but i don't want to have to speak to anyone or answer a ton of personal questions to do so. my bank is halifax if that helps.

Nope. It's done online and by letter (or was when I did it a couple of years back).

Last time I tried to sign up with Halifax banking right at the end of the lengthy dialogue it said, "nearly there, just one more step, phone this number ....". Needless to say I didn't proceed. If Halifax are still pulling this stunt they remain a bunch of idiots. I've not come across this with any other online sign-up, although I noticed with Tesco they asked for my mobile number to send a code - so I aborted that one as well.
  • I would have thought you would all in favour of Tesco 2-factor authentication system which uses a code texted to your mobile as part of the login process when not using your normal PC.
All helps to improve account security

After all, virtually all security "commentators" say that where 2FA is offered on a website you should turn it on.

No you don't need to speak to anyone usually assuming all the details are correct you'll receive some sort of verification letter to your address to enter online.

yes, i decided to try register a little while ago and this same thing came up. i thought i could proceed and then it said a number will call me immediately after i accept to go ahead. i don't want to be on the phone answering a load of questions about my account, i just want to sign up swiftly and without interference. can't even seem to do that these days.

you can do it in branch in about 10 mins (the time takes to choose the log in details, password and memorable information.

You will need to provide your mobile number as a temporary password is sent by text, no need to discuss your account.

Those above who have said you will need to call a number this is because you havent got a phone number registered so the system cant call you.

This is a automated phone call and you don't need to speak to anyone.

or you can register using the link below.

    sounds like a drama queen!
Maybe half a dozen questions politely asked would be nearer the truth?
