  • Morning,

Glad you had a good weekend and even better you 've had chance to talk things through and that your DH is on board.
I'm lucky I guess in that my hubby is 'very careful' with money and is Mr 'no we can't afford it' and as much as it pains me to say I have been more of Mrs 'yes ok' (regardless of what we've actually got in the pot, especially when it comes to the kids!!)
Great too with the no spends day & staying within your budget, well done to you both ☺

  • Thanks Lou. It also pains me to admit that I have obviously contributed to the mess!! In the past I would say, "can we afford that?" Mr N would say, "Yeah" then I would say, " OK" without any consideration so defo my mistakes too!!

So a wee update after the weekend. It's sunny here. Had a cheap weekend. Was going swimmingly...... but car made funny noise (gulp!) I decided it was exhaust and would be ok because exhaust is fairly new and I thought still under warranty. Sadly I was wrong that bit of exhaust is not covered so I am waiting on the phonecall to update me on the price. Booo :( I'll just need to move money from my frugal fund but at least it's there.
As we all know there are worse issues in life so hey ho.

I have £40 (ish) left till Friday but I've still to shop for food. I'll make some cheap meals and I'll put a bit from that as well as frugal fund to pay for exhaust. My lovely children are off at the end of this week too. So that is something to look forward to. I'll make some firm plans with them to make sure we all move.

As an aside, this would've been an example of where I would've made mistakes in the past. I would've have thought well we need it, paid for it on credit card, and then not remembered that money had been spent so been surprised when the balance at the end of the year or whenever was higher than I realised. In a way, I feel sorry for husband that he had to deal with it all on his own and then had me harping on about why the CC balances were so high. See? I honestly know that I wasn't blameless for the mess.

Take care and keep on saving

  • Just going to post a positive to help me remember that I am doing well....

Yesterday, I was shopping with my daughter and I saw a dress that I liked for myself. I considered buying it but then I reminded myself of my resolution not to buy any clothes this year - after all, I truly don't need anything and I defo dont need another dress. So, well done me. Different choices will lead to a different outcome.

  • Different choices do most definitely lead to a different outcome, very well said ☺and well done on not giving in to temptation with the dress (I know it's hard especially if like me the naughty spend thrift in my head is wrangling with the angelic Miss no spends - oh go on it's only one little....... no no no!!!)

Ooh car troubles, I know a little about that as I had a dodgy old noise in mine last week, fortunately resolved by the weekend, I do hope yours isn't too costly.

And most definitely keep focusing on the positive, you've done amazingly well☺

  • Morning all,

A lovely bright day here. Cold but I love mornings like these. Heading out to do a couple of jobs soon - in my noisy car.

It's getting fixed tomorrow at a cost of £140. Not too bad and - with some very frugal meal choices - I think I may be able to make it to pay day next Friday without touching the main account. As long as I get a few cash jobs and allows self to spend that money instead of saving.

This is progress. In the recent past, I would have taken it from my other main account as though it was a petty cash tin!

I think this month has shown me that I can def reduce my food bill. Car spending has meant that I haven't taken family anywhere though. I was hoping to go ice skating over the hols and a few outings. But the money only goes so far .... Instead though I'll do some free activities with them. Happy they're off for a few days to catch up with them x

Have a good day. I'm off to work now xx

  • Well done lovely - juggling and restricting your finances to leave the main account alone is massive progress ☺
Glad the car didn't prove to be too expensive - my dad used to say as long as you have a car you always have a hole in your pocket - he wasn't far wrong!!

Hope you have/had a great half term week (ours was last week but I know lots are this week) xxx

  • Morning all,

Husband's car to the garage today ..... Argh! Your dad was spot on, Lou!! Budget blown out the window - after all, it can only weather so many storms ....

Also not helped by me taking daughter to theatre to see Blood Brothers - I had to go to the main account to find that one.

Never mind. 2 more days to pay day.

    Have a great day.

  • Morning diary!

Feeling very fed up today. Sometimes feel like it's all unravelling ..... or maybe that's just actually me unravelling :)

Had a bad cold/cough/ear problem which is possibly contributing to the fed up ness.
I'm thinking that posting in my diary might help me get on track a bit.

LOTS to do today. Getting a new lounge carpet fitted today, 2 rooms are getting patched up from the old lounge carpet - (the insurance have said we need new but haven't given us enough money to replace them as well as doing building work so I'm trying to keep it as tight as possible) - and replacing vinyl in 3 bathrooms. Quite an uproarious day is coming. Hopefully when it's done, I'll feel like things are moving forward.

I haven't been working this week either.

Husband was paid so all bills are paid and a wee bit - £330 - added to the share savings. Any progress is good!

Back on track today with spending and hopefully back to work on Friday.

Also started a diet again. Put on leggings yesterday - they were too tight!!!! Have you ever ever heard of leggings being too tight?!? lol

Hope I haven't made others feel fed up too. Maybe time for the tablets again .......

    Take care all
    Xx

  • Updated signature to include £330 to share save. I'm really hoping that this will be a cheaper month than the last two.

Cars and dentist cost close to £1K! Signature would have looked so much better if that money had been added in!
