Can some one explain ,overseas aid is ring fenced but every government department is making cutbacks .

Government departments waste huge sums of money. Only right that savings should be made. If spent wisely then the majority of money spent overseas will end back in UK companies or paid to UK citizens. .

    Basic needs or spoilt wants?

Sorry I don't understand what phrase Basic needs ,Spoilt wants means.
Every week I read that people wait longer for NHS treatment, school s are over crowded not enough affordable housing etc.My local council keep telling us that services will be trimmed old people young children affected. Is this the truth or just propaganda?,is wish someone would tell us the truth.
Overseas aid is wounderful but notorious for lack of accountability.I am not being narrow minded or pretending there aren't problems in the world but we do have problems in the United Kingdom that need urgent attention

How many people in the UK are homeless?

How many children are sent home because there is no space in their school?

How many people are denied free medical care?

How much free money can a family of 4 get in the UK without having to do any work at all?

Compare these answers to the situation in other countries then ask yourself where you prefer to live.

I am lucky enough to have traveled to every continent and for all the flaws in our system there is no place like home.Let me make one point there is no such thing as free somewhere down the line someone has to pay.I only asked the question is all the negative things we read I.e people waiting in A&E on trolleys for hours ,shortage of affordable housing lies or half truths .

If you live in the UK and don't suffer from the sort of terrible mental illnesses that means you sleep rough then you are almost certainly in the top 20% of earners (including welfare transfers) in the world.

We in the richer countries of the world need to learn some humility IMHO and stop acting like a bunch of spoiled brats.

My local paper in London used to print letters of complaint that weeds weren't cut back often enough yet about a billion people only eat a meal a day and that is likely to be lentils with tomatoes every day.

If you go to bed with a full belly reliably then you're doing pretty well.

That is true, we are in the spoiled rich of the world. I have said that before. I have seen first hand what actual poverty looks like (travels in Africa), so I am often looked down on by my more left leaning friends when I fail to get tears in my eyes because someone with three bedrooms paid for by our taxes is asked to move to a place the same size as a working couple could afford.

So I am pro foreign aid, used smartly. I am also pro human life and aiding those trying to escape war zones. I am less inclined to support unlimited immigration from economic migrants not because I don't believe they deserve a better life, but because I don't believe that is the most efficient use of our resources in order to make more people better off. Put it this way:

If I had the choice between continuing foreign aid (correctly) or reallocating this money to allow more illegal economic migrants, I would choose the foreign aid.

I watched a piece yesterday about Germany (specifically Cologne) and the immigration Germany has seen in the past year.

Merkels rating has and is still falling quite dramtically over the immigration crisis. Lives have been disrupted for people living in Cologne (and elsewhere) as a result of the immigration.

Bold steps are being taken too, which could cause huge issues. For instance, "male refugees" have been banned from local swimming baths due to the sexual harrasment of women and unfortunately, its said, children. Transgender women have had stones thrown at them in the open streets.

The police budget has been blown and other areas of crime are having to be left on the backburner while the police put all their manpower into controling the problems associated with refugees and immigration. The council budgets have been torn apart due to the crisis.

Attacks on refugess is increasing as the local population tires of the problems being bought in. This has been put down to racism, however, you do have to question if your own partner and loves ones were being sexually harrassed, would you sit back and say "oh, it's ok, leave them to it"? Theres only so far that the "racism" thing can go.

I'm sure these people are outweighed by the many refugees who are just getting on with things. However, the above can't simply be swept under the carpet.

And it seems the answer from Germany to deal with the financial implications is a new levy on petrols.

Germany states that if it cannot secure agreement on securing the external borders, it will have to close the German borders. This will leave Greece dealing with all the refugees on it's own (just another kick in the teeth for Greece then).
Germany’s finance minister has called for a new EU-wide tax on petrol to pay for the refugee crisis.

Wolfgang Schäuble proposed the tax on petrol sales across the EU to pay for the costs of securing the Schengen Area’s external borders against a further influx of migrants.

“Why shouldn’t we deal with this at a European level, if the task is so urgent?” said Mr Schäuble, “We need to secure the Schengen external borders now. We cannot fail to address this problem because of a lack of funds.”

Seems while they won't admit it, this U-Turn on border control and need to secure it is in reaction to the huge mistakes they made in the summer of 2015.
