If you are looking to join virgin media, you can call directly to virgin media customer services team on 0844 453 ****. one of the virgin media customer support executive will help you to guide how to join virgin media once you cancel your sky subscription.
The above number is not an official number for Virgin. It is a Call Connection Service run by a third-party. It's a premium rate number with a 7p per minute Service Charge which goes to the connection service. Calls to this number cost up to 19p per minute from landlines or up to 52p per minute from mobiles. Calls to the official Virgin 03 number are inclusive from landlines and from mobiles, else charged at 'geographic rate' - the same as for 01 and 02.

Since 13 June 2014, post-sales helplines are no longer allowed to use 084, 087 or 09 numbers. Using these numbers for sales lines is a well-known 'sales prevention technique'.

All 084, 087 and 09 numbers are premium rate. The premium is the additional Service Charge paid to the benefit of the called party and their telecoms provider.

Most organisations have swapped their 084 or 087 numbers to the matching 034 or 037 number. Virgin has made this swap, but if you call the old numbers there is no advisory that a cheaper number is available. Check Virgin's official website for the correct 03 numbers to call.

Good to warn people but not a good idea to fully quote spam, can I suggest you edit your post to delete the spam in the quote i.e. the name and number.

Establish if the rep was a VM employee or an agent on commission, as this is a clear case of mis-selling. However unless you have evidence of the porkies he told you, it'll be your word against his, so proving it next to impossible.
Why does anyone ever buy from a cold calling rep?
You could indeed have got out of the Sky contract without penalty, but to do so you have to write a letter yourself citing the price increase as detrimental to the contract-no third party can do that for you.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
