    It's not the law, by law you can be prosecuted for anything over the speed limit. However the guidance given to the police is to only act at the speed limit + 10% + 2mph. So in a 30mph zone it would be 35mph. However, a police officer can use judgement and issue tickets below that. Speed cameras cannot make judgements and are therefore set at the 10%+2mph level.     As others have said, speedos are usually not calibrated and usually show speeds greater than the speed you are actually doing.

    Not true! Otherwise every one would be getting done, just try reporting a speeding driver to the police and see how far you get! they will not be interested, unless the police see them!

    I would like to see 2 civilians try to have a prosecution against a police driver,I know who would win, been there tried it, lost.!
