speeding tickets.

hi people just wanted some advice on speeding tickets.

today i was at a red light and when they turned green i sped away and reached about 35-40 (30 zone) before i noticed a police van a couple of vehicles back.

just wondering if i would get a penalty notice via post? can they do this without stopping me?

thanks in advance

35-40mph on your speedo probably about 35mph true, so probably get-awayable (is that a new word?) unless they had a calibrated speedo in the van, which is probably unlikely then I think you will be ok, had you gone way over then they would probably have stopped you.

I don't think they have to stop you now?

I guess they can send you a ticket although if they're following you, they'd have needed to record the speed and they need to record the speed over an 1/8th of a mile. If you spotted them immediately, then they wouldnt have done so. If not, then you were speeding and if you receive anything should just pay (in my experience you wont get success contesting)

  • by the time i spotted them i was way ahead of all other traffic which madre it worse, a good 4-5 car lengths in front.

so you can still get a ticket even if they dont stop you? damn fingers crossed i dont get a ticket.

if i do get a ticket it would be my word against thiers they would have no evidence i was speeding right? what makes it worse is i have a ts10 (ignoring red lights on my license from 4 years back)

oh well guess ill just sit it out for a month and if nothig arrives them ill rest happy.

The Notice of Intended Prosecution has to be served within 15 days.

In any event, if I may be permitted the observation, the next 15 days could be well spent re-thinking your driving.

  • cant do you in a van , they dont have the right calibrated equipment,

They don't need to. The law only requires 2 witnesses to say you were speeding and they don't need to be Police Officers.
  • Hi,

They need to PROVE how fast you were going, not just say that you were speeding and there is no way they can do that in a police van.

They can't touch you but I agree with what Stephen says, slow down.

I used to drive quicker than I do now (not a lunatic or anything), a while back I was the first witness at the scene of a RTA, nobody was speeding just an unfortunate accident. The driver of the car in front of me was killed, he was driving under the speed limit.

The scene was horrific and I will never forget it.

 'IF' he was checking your speed he most likely was doing on his speedo, the law is. The speed limit plus 10%. i.e. 40 mph would mean his speedo would have to say 44mph before he would stop you. They also need at least one witness with them, indipendant I believe. If he had a meter with him he would have had the exact speed you were doing and would have stopped you.

My neice is a coppa and we had this argument out only last week.

    My advice...watch you speed :D
