I would hazard a guess that it is an expandable bangle of this type: http://www.ernestjones.co.uk/webstore/d/6157343/9ct+gold+expandable+diamond+child%27s+bangle/
I've still got the one I received as a child, buried at the bottom of a jewellery box where it has lain, unworn, for over 40 years.
I was thinking the same but wasn't sure if the trend was still holding (given its been a few decades since I got mine
) You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -

Do children actually wear them? My daughter has one from her 1st birthday, but it's more of a keepsake safely tucked away with other mementoesAccept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

I wore mine a couple of times apparently, so a bit of a waste of money.
My daughter was bought a Tiffany necklace, with a charm which has family significance, for her 5th birthday but she just wore it to her party. It was really bought for her to wear when she is older so it's been put away in its box. I'm not really a fan of jewellery on small children, especially when they have no concept of value combined with an inability to recall where they have put things! I keep finding my jewellery out of their boxes because the boxes have been appropriated for storing small dolls shoes
