In our house OH is also earns the only income but I am in charge of the finances, partly as one of my contributions to the household, partly because I'm more interested, partly as in theory I have more time to locate bargains and partly as the adult who is at home most if I decide we can do without heating and wear jumpers that is one thing if somebody who was out of the house most of the day told me we were not allowed heating I would feel that was bordering on abuse. OH is in the loop regarding finances but mainly lets me to get on with it and very rarely challenges me and occasionally tells me about an offer etc.
If how you are currently doing it works for you, that is great, if not try and suggest alternatives which you are both happy with.Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent

Baileysbabe - That's pretty much how the finances are managed in our house too. Since I took redundancy in the local gov't cuts, mr f is the sole wage earner. I manage the budget however. We make joint decisions on all the big stuff & have a monthly discussion after I've done the budget plus an annual 'Money Summit' every new year. Although he is now very good at not frittering money, I am the stronger budgeter, partly because I have more time & partly because I have more interest & will to sit down & do it! My redundancy meant a 50% drop in our income so one of the conditions of going ahead with it was that I would be able to make a significant contribution financially by growing more food, cooking more, shopping around/researching stuff, make do & mending stuff, making gifts & budgeting. It works well for us.
F x2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!0
