Afternoon all, off work today poorly!
I got in at our doctors this morning who diagnosed sinusitis, I feel like I've gone 10 rounds with Mike Tyson, therefore not a lot will be getting done today! I hope everyone is ok and getting back to normal after the holiday's!
Today I will:
- Check online banking
- Update spreadsheets
- Have a NSD
- Eat healthy - All mores from home
- Catch up on a lot of TV!Debt free once - Back again | Current debt: £2479.50 - January 2025 | Make £2025 in 2025 #11 - £41/£20250 -
Starting again. My wifi collapsed as I was posting.
So I took my mother and Smalls to Dobbies. Mum paid for lunch so no spend. Smalls paid for their own sale purchases using their Christmas pennies.
DH glasses will cost £198 though!0 -
Evening Frugal Ones,
Busy useful day. The money saving bits I've done today were:
*Rubber lamb Part 2 - Made some lamb & vegetable soup using some of he stock I made yesterday. Froze the rest. Everything prepped for making lamb madras tonight with the last of the meat.
*Energy bill saving stuff - did laundry overnight on cheap tariff. Washer on timer again for another cheap wash tonight. Heated airer will be switched on at bedtime to maximise overnight cheaper drying. 2 baths from 1 lot of hot water. No downstairs heating on until 5.30 p.m.
*Updated my energy spreadsheets.
*Sorted through all the Christmas wrappings which I bundled into a bin bag on Christmas Day. Lots of it only good for recycling collection, but also a pile of decent un-ripped paper which I've neatened up, folded & put away in my big wrappings box. Also saved several of the big gift bags, decals & ribbons for making gift-tags. Plenty of good stuff to save from landfill & which will save me money next time. Counted leftover cards - 34 of them, which means I will be looking for a couple of packs in the sales. 3 rolls of paper completely un-started. All useful stuff.
*Packed items for charity shop (recycled tissue & bubblewrap).
*Put a lovely item for re-gifting into the Presents Box.
*Did a Ugov survey. Am now at £40 so hopefully should be able to accrue the final £10 this year so that it can be added to the Car Fund.
*Paid £20 off credit card to cover 2 x £10 concert tickets we bought using Leisure Piggy money (we regularly put planned expenses on CC then pay of instantly....it helps stack up points for gift vouchers).
*mr f's EE refund arrived in the post by cheque. £6 more than we expected.Have budgeted the extra £6 towards the lovely Chinese takeaway we had for a new year treat at the weekend (as well as an underspend on this week's grocery budget).
*Another nice item in the post......£50 of shopping vouchers from Co-op Insurance for taking out a new policy. There are 5 x £10 vouchers - minimum spend of £10 on each, so that really will feel like a decent wodge of free shopping, even though I think we may have to use one voucher per visit. Had forgotten about the possibility of these, as I wasn't sure I'd be elligible, so a nice surprise.
*Made tomorrow's packed lunch.
Well, I've done all of the above & now need to vacate my desk (upstairs in 'Foxgloves HQ'!) & make a start on the lamb curry. If I get time later, I might start some lists. Have decided there are lots of small things annoying me at the moment, so instead of putting up with them for another month/year/decade, I'm going to make 2 lists -
1) Annoying things which I can solve without spending any money whatsoever
2) Annoying things which could each be solved with a spend of £10 or less.
OK, must get that spice paste going.
Have a nice night, all of you. Hope that first day back hasn't been too smelly.

Had a chance to catch up with the thread

Legomum - Hope your mum had a nice birthday yesterday
BailyesBabe - I saw something like that on FB it is a really good way of saving
Princess Pea - Glad you enjoyed the film
might go and watch it with our meerkat movies
Maria - That is such a sad story re. the elderly man and his widow
I hope they get it sorted.
Pace - Sorry to hear about the job
DottyBearP and Chimi - Welcome
everyone is really nice on here and so supportive
Just thought I would add for the people that suffer with migraines, Syndol is very good. Unfortunately they have changed it and it's not as good as it used to be but is still good. I also find the patches you put on your head good too
Was sorting out washing on my bed earlier and a massive spider ran across it
have left the washing on the bed but now going to be paranoid all day/night that it is in my bed
left the washing there and will get my hubby to look for it later. Read my diaryHere

Hi,
First time I have written on here but I felt for the widow and have been in a similar position to you.
I'm so sorry for the loss of your friend.
We were in exactly the same position last August when my brother-in-law died.
After talking to the finance company we took the car back to the garage he originally bought it from (we called them first and made an appointment) to sell back to them but as there was light damage on the car they offered us a very low price that wouldn't cover the finance.
We then sold the car privately. We were lucky a neighbour was looking for a family car, we sold it to him for the amount outstanding on the finance. He was happy to have a family car at good price and the finance people got there money back. We kept the finance company fully informed all the way through and they didn't put any pressure on us for the money.
I hope this helps.
Thank you. This is a massive help. I knew where the law stood but had never been asked before.
Much appreciated.
Welcome to the friendliest thread on mse.

Foxgloves - brilliant idea about the 2 annoying lists - mind if I pinch it? (I spend a lot of each day away from the house so can't always get to things quickly)Debts 07/12/2021

Clootiesmum - Feel free to use the Annoying Things Lists idea. I've started writing mine now & I intend to tackle the '1st annoying thing which can be solved for free' tomorrow morning.
Mr f has just said he thinks he may be able to solve an extremely irritating lighting problem in my HQ room (sort of office) by fitting a different type of lightbulb, instead of the re-wiring I feared was necessary, so have added that to the 'Annoying things I can fix for under a tenner' list.
We don't have the money to tackle many of the big expensive jobs still outstanding on our house, but with a list & a bit of focus, I can deal with a whole load of the little free or cheap ones.

Do you mean what subjects or how much? I'll answer both questions lol I'm a nurse by background, so I work self-employed for a distance learning company marking level 2 assessments in medicines administration, infection control and safeguarding adults. It's good money - if you're a fast typist and know your stuff, then it can be up to £25 per hour :jHIGHEST DEBT £63,300 LBM 27/5/2020 DEBT FREE DATE 31.08.20220
