Packing a cabin bag for long haul

Including some of the suggestions above, I also take:
a pillow
lip salve - I find my lips get very dry
a pashmina that doubles as a blanket0 -
Imagine that you arrive but your luggage doesn't and pack what you would need most in the first 24 hours as well as what you might need on the flight.0

This is what I pack
Full change of clothes
Eye mask
Ear plugs
Neck pillow (you can get blow up ones)
Wet wipes
Any facial moisturiser you would normally use
Lip balm (plane air is very dry)
Deodorant
Appropriately flight socks, unless these are bought based on ankle and calf measurements they are useless
Entertainment and charger
Paper with details of where I'm staying etc
Photocopy of travel insurance details
Crayons and paper
Book/kindle
I don't take a toothbrush as I'm yet to come across an airline that doesn't supply them. I always buy a bottle of water after security to take on the plane, however some airports don't let these on the plane, Dubai tends to take them off you.0 -
Kindle
USB charger for Kindle/extra power pack.

Female. Of the older generation.
Some good ideas there. I need to find out if you can put things like deodorant in or need to buy in from the airport.
I think things may have changed since the last time I went on a plane.
Does anyone know if you can take your crochet including hook with you?

We're going to Sydney later this month with 2 stops (3 if we count the s/h flight LHR-ARN).
My list includes
Kindle/iPad & chargers
Small plastic bag containing deodorant (roll on), face wipes left over from previous BA flights, moisturiser, eye pencil & mascara
Change of underwear, t.shirt & leggings
Puzzler book & pen
Pair of toe post slippers - who wants to walk into a wet patch in the loo wearing just socks?
Passport, boarding pass & itinerary
iPod & headphones
Another small plastic bag with travel size shampoo, body wash & puff (we're lucky to be flying business class so will access the lounges at 1 or 2 of the stops for a shower)
Hair brush, comb & travel size styling spray
Socks
Paracetamol
Nicorette chewing gum
That's it I think, hand baggage is quite generous thankfully but I am taking items on this trip that I wouldn't usually take & as we're flying business, the airline provides eye mask, ear plugs, toothbrush & paste so no need to bring my own.0 -
Remember any liquids, pastes and gels need to go in the ziplock bag.
I used to travel for a living so here's what I'd put in:
A change of clothes
Hand and face cream
Pen
Entertainment (book/kindle/tablet)
Medications
Pashmina (doubles as an extra blanket)
Passport/ticket details/insurance details/address at destination
Comfy shoes (your feet will swell so ballerina pumps or similar)
Deodorant
Toiletries/make-up if you like to wear any
Chargers for gadgets incl adapter
Sense of humour
Patience
Travel in comfortable clothes that aren't too tight.0 -

Although I've posted my list above whenever I can I pack everything in my hand luggage.
I've had my bags left behind in the US several times when I've cleared customs and then rechecked them for my onward flight to my destination. I can pack for a spring or summer holiday for a week within most airline's hand baggage allowance (real airlines can only manage 3/4 days with Ryanair

MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
Liquids that go through security are limited to 100ml. Not a problem if you go airside and buy in Boots. The airport web site will give you full information.

Small deodorants, toothpastes etc can be found in many supermarkets where a small travel items section is set aside.0 -
You might find this link useful - it tells you all about the liquids rule & also mentions knitting needles:Female. Of the older generation.
