Bank of Scotland application outside of Scotland?

I've just tried opening a Bank of Scotland account online but the application gets stuck on the "Local Branch" bit as no results are returned for my area (West Yorkshire).
I gave them a quick call and the lady on the phone said I need a scottish address to open an account, is this correct? It seems wrong as I wouldn't expect the account to be mentioned in the savings loophole article if that was the case. That or I just say my nearest branch is somewhere in Scotland.
I'm only opening the account for the interest on the current account and never plan to go to a branch.

Surprised it did not mention Lloyds/ Halifax as they are the same group0

No you don't need a Scottish address, just chose a random branch and continue.0

I opened one last week and i live in Lincs, just choose any branch. If you change nothing, nothing will change!!0

You were advised incorrectly you do not need an address in Scotland to open an account.
I opened 2 accounts with them recently and as we have no branch near, just picked the nearest from their "branch locator" .
You need to select a branch to be your"home" branch so that the sort code can be put on the debit card.0 -
Thanks, I'll try it again.0

Think BOS staff must be trained by the same staff as at Tesco! Lots of them make up their own rules. I have 3 BOS accounts and tried to open a donor account yesterday and also got stuck on the location. I tried to put in our postcode from the south but it would not put the nearest scottish branch in just kept throwing it back. OH also tried to open one and same thing happened. We both lost our applications so rang them and office closed so were told to ring back on monday when they will be able to retrieve our applications. Apparently you need to put a scottish postcode in - odd.0

If it's of help this is the postcode for my nearest branch, DG1 2BN, approx 360 miles for me.0

I had the same problem. In the end I just searched Edinburgh and went for the first one than came up.0

I opened one last week, and I chose a branch that had a nice easy sort code, 804647, but I suppose you could just put Edinburgh, or Glasgow.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Banking & Borrowing, and Reduce Debt & Boost Income boards.
