EE Contract In Ex's Name - EE Won't Let Me Change It Or Cancel It

Hi All

Posting this on behalf of my girlfriend.

When with her ex partner he signed up a mobile contract with EE for her, for some reason they wouldn't let him put it in her name so it got left like that.

They split up 2 years ago and she has been paying the phone bill and using the contract.
Now the contract is coming to the end and she wants to stay with EE, keep her number and upgrade to a new contract.

But they won't let her do any of that as she is not the person who signed the contract.

She can't even cancel the contract and get her PAC code without him and she has no idea where he is or how to contact him (and doesn't want to anyway!)

So what can she do?

If she just cancels her direct debit will they chase her or her ex? This way means losing her number of course but at least gets her out of his contract. It seems unfair to put the ex in debt but what else can she do? Only other option appears to be stay on the same contract forever with no change of phone!!! Not really a viable option.

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks

I can't believe she has no way of contacting the ex.
It is his contract, so time has moved on and waters calmed, she will have to humbly approach him, perhaps he is not a drama queen and will get it sorted fuss free.

After all, it's in his interests as he will suffer in the first place if she stops paying.

That said, upgrading is out of question in this situation unless the contract is transferred to her name. Otherwise she has to be happy if she can keep (port) the number.

I guess the simple method is for a man to phone up and pretend to be him. And do the minimum required. i.e get PAC.

Make sure he can answer the security questions. Not that it seams to bother EE from other threads on here lol !

    Exactly^

Contact may not be possible even 2 years later... for all we know the ex could be a violent sociopath, thus letting the contract default (if the number is not needed) or contacting the ex may be a no go area.

Yes get the details you need for security and get a PAC.

Thing that goes through my head is the ex has access to all her communication records for the next 6 years let alone the last 2

If you get nowhere and eventually end up cancelling the DD, everything will fall back to whoever is named on the contract.

If you want to stay with EE, and can somehow get the PAC, you will need to first port out to another network. Once you have ported out, perhaps to a simple pay-as-you-go, leave it a few weeks and then get a second PAC so you can move to EE in your own name.

  • Sorry for the late reply and thanks for all the suggestions.

I was about to go down the route of pretending to be the ex as we know all the security answers when lo and behold he makes contact with her on facebook!!! He was actually nice enough to phone up and sort out the switch so nice to get that out of the way.
Weird how it happened out of the blue but good timing.
