OK, I'll try one final time, then I'll leave you to it.

Given your bad credit file and that you have already been declined a small overdraft by your existing bank, you might not have any fun with a normal application.

If you apply for the FlexBasic, they will either tell you that you qualify for one of their other accounts, in which case you got what you wanted, or they will give you the FlexBasic (unless you have CIFAS markers or are on National Hunter with adverse information).

FlexBasic is a full-functional account, just with no overdraft. They will review your account regularly and offer you an upgrade as and when they believe you qualify for one of their normal accounts.

Please do read up about the FlexBasic, on the Nationwide website, to which I provided you a link 5 hours ago
  • Thanks for the info Archie.

Regarding nationwide they don't bug you could apply for a credit card and use the soft search, if it comes back with a decent limit above 1000 say and below a 19.9% APR then you might have a good chance on the current account anything else will be a likely decline.

    Hi just did this earlier,

This is what i got back from National wide soft search earlier:
Good news, xxxxx! Subject to a credit check, we can offer you a Nationwide Credit Card with a credit limit of up to £2000 at 19.9% APR representative (variable).

So i may have half a chance, i'll give the account a go first as i don't need a card and there is no point going through a hard search at this stage.

    Regards
  • Hi,

Problem solved, applied for the full account with benefits got accepted straight away.
I think staying away from searches for the last two years and just focusing on building my credit has certainly helped.

Really appreciated all the help on the site.

I'll give it a good 12 months and apply for their credit card as soft search was very good indeed but to many searches in a short space of time isnt a good thing.
