Those who left oversubscribed Virgin Media cable areas, what's your experience?

I've been with Virgin Media fibre for a number of years, the past couple of years I've experienced massive decreases in speed at peak times, usually getting 1-2mb (from a 53mb non-peak). Apparently my area is hugely oversubscribed, but I've foolishly remained with them, falling for the 'we're upgrading the area, done in a few months' excuse.

Anyway, I've finally decided to switch and want to know if anyone here has been in a similar situation and if you have any pointers/tips. Also, who did you switch to and what speeds do you get at peak times?

Thanks.
