Compensation as re-scheduled flight could have been earlier?

We took a flight between European countries last year which could not land due to bad weather, we were diverted to a nearby airport (for several hours later) to wait to see if the weather changed and as it was not predicted to improve until the following morning we refueled and headed back to the original airport (taking several more hours). They gave us a sandwich and some water for the flight home, put us up in a hotel in the departure city and flew us the next afternoon, giving us lunch but no breakfast. The weather was obviously not the airlines fault, but we were initially told we would fly back the next morning, but on arrival we were informed that the re-scheduled flight (different flight number etc) would not be until mid- afternoon, this was likely due to no aircraft being available. Although the re-scheduled flight was on time, we did not get in until the evening, whereas the weather had improved that morning. Am I entitled to claim anything?
