Question for bank employees, please!

>Really? That's disgusting. Surely that can't be legal now. What business of your employer is it if you are overdrawn<

The bank paid my wages and in those days the branch manager of same bank was expected to ensure his staff did not in any circumstances go overdrawn unless a formal arrangement was in place. Indeed, any overdraft request was approved by the bank's Staff Department at Head Office not the local branch manager. So, those written formal requests to Edinburgh were few.
I often heard it said that we were not allowed to have any account anywhere else in case we were stealing from RBS and hiding it away elsewhere.
I guess in 1969 which was a long time ago they could do all mentioned as it was in the contract of employment. Legal today? I just don't know. Still have my first RBS salary slip - wages £404 per annum. I really do now feel my age!

When I worked for Abbey (post Abbey National but pre Santander) I had an account with them as if you did you were paid a day early. Mine wasn't a staff account- I didn't qualify for one as I had a bad credit rating, it was just a basic account when they were newly introduced- but it was completely optional.*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200

It's an old thread, but even so I feel you should explain more (how were they stung? what bank was this? what disciplinary action?) or you'll face being dismissed as a troll.0 -

They certainly would now, given that RBS sold their entire holding in Citizens last year.
