Question for bank employees, please!

I have just got a job with RBS and they offered me the choice of applying for one of their accounts to have my salary paid into.
Is this a good idea? Given the choice, do other bank employees do this?
I don't like the idea of people I work with being able to access my account. I also feel paranoid about being off sick and them monitoring my account to see if that's been used. Because if it has, they may assume I have been faking it. Also, what if I ever wanted to switch my main account away from them while I was still working for them? That would feel a little awkward.
All paranoid, unnecessary worries, of course. I was just curious about the views of other bank employees.

If it's a choice, then you don't have to do it.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

I work for a bank and have always had a staff account. Data protection applies to colleague's too. If someone accessed your account without permission they would be in heaps of trouble.
HR may access if there is suspicion of fraud on your part but other than that, people don't have time to trawl through thousands of staff accounts without a valid reason.
There might be , something in your contract obliging you to flag up with your line manager or hr if you fall into financial difficulties.
You will not be allowed to access your own account either, unless through the proper channel (using the online service with your personal login details or the telephone service again identifying yourself as appropriate).Bossymoo

Makes it easier to get staff discounts. Cheap mortgage, ours is .5% above base rate, discounted insurance etc etc. Don't be paranoid!0

Have it as one of your accounts. Get the perks and the anonomity.0

I worked for RBS and got their advantage gold account for free instead of a monthly fee.
Its worth it as you get a lot more benefits, I got a decent credit card and a loan at a staff rate.
People can access your account however its not worth them losing their job just to check how much you have!0 -
I work in a related sector & the cost of curiosity about someone else's business is the high jump. At once, no messing.
Only where there is a reasonable professional concern (not for a few days off sick, more like disappeared for over three months & there're folk clutching legal documentation!) might someone have a dekko and only then with full HR safeguards.
Congratulations on getting the job, now relax into some of the perks!0 -

I have never used my RBS account as my main account for this reason and I have worked for them 12 years
RBS relaxed the rules in February 2015 so you can choose to where you would like your salary paid.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -

I have a staff account that my wages go into but my money gets transferred out to other accounts as they give the better incentives (interest, rewards etc) average credit balance of 0.01p
I then qualify for staff loans, and Mortgages, as my wages go into the account.

Personally I've never had an account with the bank that I've worked with. Not because I'm a tinfoil hat wearing conspiracy theorist, but simply because I was happy enough with my own existing arrangements. Now if any of those banks had offered me a high deposit rate, I'd probably have bitten their hand off!
I just pity some of my poor ex-colleagues in the US from a former employer, who actually require them to open a staff account to have their salary paid into. Wonder if such a policy would even be legal in the UK...
(Now if we were talking about incentivised share schemes for employees, I'd get my tinfoil hat and suggest that you steer well clear, given I lost my shirt on a certain notoriously bankrupt US bank. Oh well...)0
