Sorry, only just seen this.
My in laws live in Broomfield and even though it is near Melbourne(which really is the badlands!) it's a world apart.
It's similar to Great Baddow in that it feels a bit more rural and more 'village' like.
I'm not actually sure where it starts to go down hill and become Melbourne but I would say you want to be the other side of Patching Hall Lane to ensure you're not too close!
I would happily live in Broomfield. It has the advantage that you can get onto the A12 without going through Chelmsford but i'd say it may be a bit of a slog to get to Chelmsford station for commuting purposes(you pretty much have to go via the B1008 which is a single lane road that is very busy during rush hour with no other options if there is a problem), although the buses will be very regular because of the hospital.
Again, long term it may be good because you could use the new Bealieu Park station when it opens which should also see property prices in Broomfield increase as a result.0 -
Cheers Andy bsg, you have confirmed few things I had heard. With new station plans its got to be good move...long-term, lots plus points. It's now deffo on our list of places to scout out. Thanks for road tips!0

Yeah, the Chalkwell side of Westcliff, but then that's Leigh on Sea prices!

and those prices are bonkers for houses!....but whats leigh on sea side of westcliff then is there a cut off road landmark?0
-
Generally west of station is best - apart from the huge houses down the bottom of course near the station. I'm looking still and there have been some gorgeous Chalkwell houses come up, but unfortunately double my budget lol.

visited at the weekend - i have to agree its got nice feel to it Broomfield, roads off the main road are very quiet and spacious, get little bit more for your money.....but like you say long term potential with new station plans. nice feel few pubs on high st caught my eye... only concern is daily commute to train station, would depend on where kids get into school etc...
we also drove around moulsham near oaklands park lovely, baddow nice too...and springfield... just gota hope right place come along when we are set to move0 -
agree with your comment there those on edge of westcliff but near chalkwell park are nice - we may be leaning towards chelmsford for commutability and overall good schools for kids.... still not sure though,0
