NEA screwed us over?

Hi all

Me and my partner live together have 4 children recently claiming Child benifit and tax credits. Me and my partner set up a joint JSA claim only for a short period. now all was running fine "skint but fine" until i Decided i wanted to start my own business. Got told the best route is the NEA scheme in which I got accepted and was looking to make a better future for the whole family.
Now When the swich over tyo the NEA from JSA happened we got told "EVERYTHING will stay as is Just swapped over to NEA" a little less money as assumed but our money would still be getting paid every week instead of every 2 weeks .. on that note we took that as gospal and i contuined getting everything set up for my business.
I went to the Bank yesterday to find £68 in my account I automaticlly phoned the job center and asked what the hell is going on ... Apparentlly the money is just my NEA, fine but where is my partners money??? we dont know we only know that you have gone on the scheme not your partner!!!

To be honest this has put us in a real state ... we pay a weekly top up on rent in which we have been to court about payments so it needs to be kept up to date one fail payment can cause us to be homeless... now thats the state were in no help from the job center what so ever... im almost at breaking point. My girlfreind now cant Get JSA as im apparently working. im not because that £68 has now got to go else where. If i was told all this i would have gone down a differant route and made sure we wernt getting penilised for something im trying to get us out of and make a better future for my family.

My questions are:

1) as were private renting and been to court before the Council have now made us potentialy homeless if we cant pay this top up. will they accept that and will they be able to help us?

2) I was mislead into going down this NEA scheme can i just sign back on JSA as thats the only way i see fit at the mo.

3) how can my girlfriend get her JSA as it has obviasly stopped dead in the water?

Thanks in advanced
Dal

How many hours are you doing in your business?

If over 24 per week then you would claim working tax credits instead of JSA.

Have you started a business yet?
  • thanks for the replies.

Firstly im doing no hours at the moment due to not being able to get the NEA loan "credit check failed" so every week i have been buying tools needed the last thing im needing to do is get my car taxed/insured then im good to go. so working tax credits i cant give them any input as im not earning at the moment. "im dead in the water"

No the business hasnt started yet due to no means of getting to customers.

Just another thing i should mention.
My girlfriend is also doing a level 2 in hairdressing 2 days a week now obviasly the benifits have stopped i assume? thats now put her in a bit of a mess? she has 6 weeks left aswell

Were both trying to make a sucure future but every corner we come accross just gets in a mess.

Just wish they told me everything before i went through this scheme ... i was told nothing changes apart from money being deducted every so often which is fine as ild be earning but thats not the case at the moment how we are sposed to get by with 4 children, starting a business, fuel, advertising top up on rent etc on £68 is crazy obviasly got child benifit etc but now housing benifit is gonna see im not on JSA or were both not on JSA and top ups gonna be even more .... think i gotta cut my losses sign back on and do what everyone else does and abuse the system "thats how i feel" I wont but makes me sick im trying to get us somewhere and just get knocked down all the time

Could your partner work two days a week? That would then replace the JSA

I think your partner has to now make a claim for single JSA.
  • I think you have discovered that the JCP are severely under trained lack sufficient knowledge in schemes and can completely mess up the basic of things.

Any dealing with the JCP you should now start to investigate the rules regs before hand before you are dealt a bad hand by front line staff in terms of their under training and lack of knowledge, its not the front lines staff its the training they go through, they spend more training hours on how to create doubt over a claim than they do on what projects and schemes they offer entail and the impacts on the claimants JSA.

My Tip, As your GF is a trainee hairdresser, can she not set herself up with a local hairdressers part time this would eliminate the need to Claim JSA as the hours worked would cover the loss of JSA.

And then when she is fully qualified, can you not help her set up a business

How did you not get the £2500 loan? It does not matter about your credit check, its not like a loan from the bank, you could have the worst credit in history and still get it.

Its all about your business plan, make that acceptable and you get the £2500 loan.

If you business fails you dont have to pay it back.

I have been waiting two months still no payments

Every time I email nea they say it's nothing to do with us

They always try to transfer responsibility away, they want me to send them all sorts of paper work about how my business is going, but I told them first can we please get my back payments sorted out
Nothing has been fixed since 2008, it was just pushed into the future

You have to keep on at them, it may take several phone calls and lots of emails.

If they say it's not us it's somebody else then find out who they are talking about and get on to them.
