Change of ISP - Advice Needed. TalkTalk are Blocking new Provider.

Hi. I decided to change from TalkTalk to PlusNet. Even though I was no longer in contract with TalkTalk, I gave them 30 days notice of change before contacting PlusNet.
PlusNet told me that they would sort everything out from there on, but as I hadn't heard anything I contacted them today. They told me that TalkTalk had put a "cease" notice on my line and any other ISP would have to wait until the line had been physically disconnected before they could reinstall it. PlusNet told me that if I could get TalkTalk to remove the cease notice they could have my system up and running straight away. How do I do this to save me the nearly £200 that TalkTalk said it would cost.

TBH you have gone about this in the wrong way, if you had approached Plusnet, they would have migrated your service from TT without you contacting TT at all,
You would have received a 'sorry to see you go' type communication from them, indicating the process in motion, by contacting TT and telling them you were quitting , they obviously entered a cease order for your service and it would appear that PN cannot migrate a line that is in the process of being ceased...
migrations are gaining provider led, you don't need to talk to the losing provider at all, you may be able to cancel the TT 'cease' but I would be careful as they may take that as you agreeing to a new minimum term contract0 -
Thanks for the reply. I contacted TalkTalk because that's what the small print said I had to do - give 30 days notice.0

I'm quite supprised they say that, OFCOM came up with the new migration rules , gaining provider led, and a lot of the process was to negate the need for people to speak to the company they were leaving, avoiding that company's retention staff, the threats of how much it will cost, and the tall tales they tell about competing company's poor performance etc...however most things OFCOM touch turn to ****0 -
Somewhat off topic, but are you switching to PlusNet because they offered you a lower price than TalkTalk or just out of principle for what an awful company they are?
I'd definately switch from TalkTalk if there was any provider offering a lower or even the same price, but so far I can't find any provider who has a new customer deal that even matches what they've offered me for unimited fibre and anytime calls, which is around £32 a month averaged over 18 months.
To be honest I don't think that is a very good deal from TalkTalk, and is considerably more expensive than the deals they are offering new customers, but I can't find a better deal and so far there don't seem to be any new year deals on comparison sites.0 -
Thanks again for your reply. In the meantime I phoned TalkTalk and actually got through straight away to a very helpful ( I could hardly believe it for TalkTalk ) guy who tried hard to get my to stay with them. I told him that the more hassle I had to go through and the more it cost me, the less chance there was of me ever returning to TalkTalk in the future (actually their broadband and phone service has been great - it's other things that I had problems with).
He has told me that he has now cancelled the "cease" on my line and my changeover should be able to commence after 24 hours.
Well done there TalkTalk - pity it's seldom this easy.0 -

Read the terms again!
Your problems are totally self inflicted!
You only have to give 30 days notice to completely end broadband provision, not migrate broadband to another provider.
The migration process was devised to make switching providers easy and painless and you do not contact the provider that you are leaving, although it would be sensible to cancel your DD after the switch has completed.
Some people do the same with their mobiles and give the 30 day notice to cancel and then wonder why they then can't transfer their number - how can a cancelled number be ported to another network!0 -
It's always easy when you know these things. I was only wanting helpful suggestions.0

Well I suppose you could have asked here first back on your faceplate thread when you were considering it.0
