garage planning permission

Hi,
I've just bought a house and it had planning permission to put a garage where the carport was. The plans show that it would have 2 single doors but the previous owners put in a double door. This was done in 2006. The people who have a garage opposite ours have complained to us yesterday that it doesn't meet the planning permission and he'll contact the council. Should I be worried??

Thanks

David

No, it's far too late for the council to do anything about it (assuming you have evidence of the work being done in 2006). I would be more worried about what else the neighbours are going to moan about.

As davidmcn suggests, it is very strange for a neighbour to start complaining about a garage door 9 or 10 years after it was installed.

Perhaps you should be wondering what their real motivation is for raising the topic.

Did they apply for planning permission only to have it turned down? Check your council's planning website to see

  • I believe it's due to me parking my car on the space outside my garage (as it's still full of boxes from the move) and which he does as well, and it's convenient for him to use that space to turn his car (there are other ways of him getting out just be 2 maneuvers rather then one) which I believe the previous owners didn't do
  • The planning permission for the conversation of the car port into a garage with 2 doors was approved early 2006

Do you own that space? Or are you, actually, causing an inconvenience by denying that neighbour their right to use the space as a turning area?

People don't like change, but they get used to it. I'm assuming the area you park on is your land and not a shared right of way?
  • It's common land. Though everyone parks on the space in front of there garage which is why I did it.
  • Not causing an inconvenience in my eyes as he is able to turn his car around in other spaces. His argument was he's done it there since he's lived there.
  • I don't believe it's a right of way. How would I check this?
