Have you checked content of fish fingers ? Only about 20% id fish , all other is c..p. They have place only as children's party food.The word "dilemma" comes from Greek where "di" means two and "lemma" means premise. Refers usually to difficult choice between two undesirable options.
Often people seem to use this word mistakenly where "quandary" would fit better.0 -

I shared my opinion about fish fingers, you used derogatory adjectives talking about me. Something makes me think muscle mass is not your main issue.The word "dilemma" comes from Greek where "di" means two and "lemma" means premise. You want this, its what i take. After you do a workout have 1 of these. I like to keep myself lean and my weight is always around 12.5 stone. My body fat is around 16% and have something like 62% body water count. I'll know my exact stats next time i weigh.

But actually I have a serious nut and sea food allergy and I'm only currently able to tolerate simple white fish in this form. ..cod, pollock etc. And as far as I'm concerned, it is 60% fillet which will provide me a reasonable hit of protein and omega. So they don't actually have a place jn 'party food' - to suggest so would be arrogant and narrow minded...and a bit thick. Maybe you are all or one of those. Thanks
Stop being so offensive. Fish Fingers are garbage if you're trying to eat cleanly. If you're worried about Omega, take some capsules.
If you want to put on healthy weight, it's quite straightforward. Calculate your base metabolic rate (how much your body burns each day without food) and then eat around 500 calories more than this whilst doing regular resistance training. Eat clean calories - lean meat and fish, green veg, sweet potatoes, brown rice, avocado (don't be afraid of fats) and cut out alcohol.
And please, stop the stereotype that everyone in a gym is a 'meat head' or 'bulky'. It takes YEARS upon YEARS of hard work and commitment to craft a bodybuilders body, if it was easy then everyone would have that sort of physique. If your weights at home aren't enough just bite the bullet and get to a gym, it's nothing more than a place to exercise.Whatever doesn't kill me, can only make me stronger.

Even though it might feel ridiculous it's probably worth using a mirror or filming yourself doing a few until you've perfected your form and know what it feels like.Is it OK to squat without dumbells as I kept losing balance.Do you not know that a man is not dead while his name is still spoken?

High Blood Sugar Leads to High Body Fat
According to the National Council on Strength and Fitness, the two most common sources of carbohydrates in the American diet are high-fructose corn syrup and sucrose. These refined sugars, which are added to many foods, lack the vitamins, minerals, proteins and fiber found in complex carbohydrates. These "empty calories" can cause blood sugar levels to spike, which in turn causes insulin levels to rise. Insulin is a hormone released by the body that helps regulate blood sugar levels. If sugar is not quickly used for energy, insulin removes it from the blood, and it is then converted into triglycerides in the liver. These triglycerides can then be stored as body fat.quote

Cut Sugar, Not Fat
Scott Olson, a naturopathic doctor, notes that there is a lot of confusion about whether to reduce fats or sugar from the diet in order to lose weight. According to Olson, there are good fats and bad fats but "there is really no good sugar that you can eat." This is because sugar quickly turns to fat inside the body. Olsen says this is because the body prefers not to waste energy. Therefore, when you consume high amounts of sugar in a single sitting, the body's solution is to store it for later. Low-sugar diets can be effective for managing weight and health.

I think.. if you have too much fat or too much sugar they both end up turned too fat.

Check out this guy above. Dispells all 'theory' BS in books, especially written by 'Dr' Olsen as you pointed out about sugar. By the way, I was talking about real sugar ie. fructose found in fruit. Not corn syrup or whatever else.
Every cell in your body needs sugar to generate energy - not one cell needs fat to do anything. BMR - basal metabolic rate my current height/weight/age means I burn around 2000 calories a day sitting on my !!!!. So sugar is being used to generate energy to pump blood around my body, breathe, move my hand from my bag of corn syrup (;)) to my mouth.
Fat = fat
Sugar = energy, life, movement.
The OP is trying to get fit, add muscle, tone up etc so he's going to be active. I appreciate if you ram loads of refined sugary crap into your body you'll get fat if you sit around doing nothing, but if you exercise and eat less fat/no fat then you won't get fat. The clue is in the name, fat.
Also, try not to quote American 'health' content, they're not exactly the pinnacle of health and fitness are they? Not that you mentioned this, but Dr Atkins of the Atkins diet fame had serious health problems from being a fat, lazy fat person. Why would people take advice about losing weight from a massively obese person? It makes no sense.0 -
I want to get bigger and lose weight....
The infamous January quote.
I think that you honestly need to go back to basics, muscles grow after they are under stress. So yes, repetitions are important, but also is loading. I could do 100 bench presses with no bar, and have no impact, or do 5x5 with moderate weight and see gains, or 5x3 with heavy weight and see strength gains.
If you want to lose fat then combine hypertrophy, with HIIT and a clean diet of proteins, fats, simple carbs and plenty of water
If you want to bulk up, then eat a lot, train lower rep work. But I can not see why someone would want to do this unless they are comping and intend to cut.
I honestly recommend reading on the best books out there for hard gainers "Brawn" by Stuart Mc Robert.
I have trained for many years, If i were to go back to the age of 21 I would tell myself to do the following for 1 year and see the results, no faff around with gimmicky routines and machines
Deadlift
Squat
Bench Press
Chin Ups
Dips
Pull Ups
Bent Over Row
That is it, for 1 whole year, 3 times a week. Huge gains ahead.0 -
my little brother has a app for his iphone that is a calorie counter
Calorie Counter & Diet Tracker by MyFitnessPal
you scan foods and it adds the calories up on the phone so you can see what you are eating and how much calories are taking in , so if you want to gain weight you need to increase your calories , there are loads of videos on youtube to help you , if you have a fast metabolism try eating small prep meals every 2 hours , chicken , pasta , broccoli. my little brother goes to the gym alot so the food does not just sit there and my best advice he read up on protein milk shakes , please stay away from these and they do no good to your stomach or liver and also the amount or 'sugar' in them is no good at all!
i will try get my little brother to join this forum and you can ask him as much questions as you like as all of this is just from what he told me.
by the way he was not the biggest person in the world but he toned up with a good diet and calorie intake and exercise0 -
