Pasta fruit and cereal will make you gain fat if you eat too much, as its all carbs and ultimately sugar in some form
    I firmly disagree.

carbs are vital to sustaining/levelling blood sugar throughout the day.

I will never understand those that cut it out completely.

    You're right - you don't get it.
Haven't said anything like that. So have a good re-read.
I want to add weight AND get a little bit more muscled (ie bigger) & toned. I just DON'T want to get fatter, which I won't if I'm doing resistance exercises.
    Hope that clarifies?
Stones in my pocket? Try some cells in your brain?

Did some good training today including increased load.

The way I see it, 'too much' are the operative words here.
Of course they're complex carbs so release energy slowly. Like potatoes. And too many will make you plump.
A balanced diet is always good. And I want to increase my calories too.
  • Download the Freeletics app. No need for equipment. Squat jumps etc. Explosive exercises. HIIT (high intensity interval training). You'll put on muscle but will be toned - when I was 18 I took weight gain powder as I was similar to what you describe yourself. Now at 32 I want to have that slender/toned frame again but instead I have completely changed since then. So it's easier and cheaper and quicker to do, not going to the gym means no additional weights needed just your body weight so you don't run 'as' much risk in injuring yourself.

Agree with the above, carbs are vital for giving sugar/glucose/energy to cells. Our bodies need glucose to run every part of the body. This whole sugar BS Jamie Oliver is spouting needs to stop. If you sit on your !!! for 24 hours a day then the fat you eat will make you fat. Sugar keeps your body working. Fat makes you fat. That's why it's called fat. Fat.

BTW, I've just gone vegetarian/vegan as much as I can in the past 3 months. All organic, no processed crap however it costs 10-20% more than previously on a food shop and have put on muscle, noticeably dropped fat all over. I do Freeletics, road bike miles and HIIT running up steps/hill sprints. I have very little time for exercise but I work from home on my laptop and have a young daughter, so I need to make any exercise I do count hence the short, sharp exercises.

Thank you. I'll download the app as it sounds ideal. Was eating too much red meat so now I've cut back and stick to chickens and fish fingers

I was doing explosive jumps over my chair yesterday :j

My lower back felt pressure doing squats - is it normal ? Is it OK to squat without dumbells as I kept losing balance.

I am already consuming more :rotfl:

    Hi
I haven't weighed myself in a while but I'm a self conscious bloke.

Last time I did, my bmi came in as under weight. ..but close to normal weight.

Always been slim as a kid. On my feet for job. Do aerobic exercise couple times a week

But I want to add weight and find it hard to. Ideally a stone.

Don't do gym or artificial build up stuff.

So...as most say ..is it a case of just eating more and more frequently and using my dumb bells at home for bicep curls and punching them upwards over my head. For my legs I'm thinking tip toe reps and squats

Just want simple weight gain and toning up advice please.

Always been worried that weight will go to my face (sub consciously)!

I eat fruit, pasta, fruit juice, cereal and sometimes ready meal in evening as no time.
sorry if i misss understood...i thought it was a good joke.:)
anyway if you want to tone up . try doing low reps.

    with each exercise
6 at the most,if you can do more you need to increase the weight.
    with 1 minute or 2 minute rest x 4
dont woory about becoming a meat head,
you wont bulk up that much unless you take steroids.
god i hate them steroid guys .
. why do people want to get that big..dont get it:p

High Blood Sugar Leads to High Body Fat
According to the National Council on Strength and Fitness, the two most common sources of carbohydrates in the American diet are high-fructose corn syrup and sucrose. These refined sugars, which are added to many foods, lack the vitamins, minerals, proteins and fiber found in complex carbohydrates. These "empty calories" can cause blood sugar levels to spike, which in turn causes insulin levels to rise. Insulin is a hormone released by the body that helps regulate blood sugar levels. If sugar is not quickly used for energy, insulin removes it from the blood, and it is then converted into triglycerides in the liver. These triglycerides can then be stored as body fat

    Cut Sugar, Not Fat
Scott Olson, a naturopathic doctor, notes that there is a lot of confusion about whether to reduce fats or sugar from the diet in order to lose weight. According to Olson, there are good fats and bad fats but "there is really no good sugar that you can eat." This is because sugar quickly turns to fat inside the body. Olsen says this is because the body prefers not to waste energy. Therefore, when you consume high amounts of sugar in a single sitting, the body's solution is to store it for later. Low-sugar diets can be effective for managing weight and health.
