Finally I feel brave enough to begin posting here - joined a while ago and have lurked ever since :embarasse

I'm proud to announce that I mended my vacuum cleaner today (well, I took off the brush bar (which you need an engineering degree to work out) and unravelled all the "stuff" clogging up the pipes and brushes) then put it all back together again. Hey presto! It works now :T

I minimised some chicken into a curry for lunch, together with the last of the double cream and lonely red pepper from the fridge. Bloomin' luverly...

I "made do" with a hot cup of tea, rather than my usual large glass of wine with dinner this evening. Doing Dry January and absolutely determined to get through the month without any alcohol. I'm doing well to date but we're only half-way through!

Any chance of being able to source curtains from charity shops NurseMaggie? The ones round here often seem to have nice ones, often really good quality at a fraction of the new price :)

It means a bit of hunting around, and carrying a note of the sizes you need for which room etc, but I have found good ones to fit some of the windows here (all different, and none a standard modern size, as it is an Edwardian house). I have also found them at car boot sales, but I appreciate there aren't many at this time of the year.
  • Hiya all

Many thanks for the tips re pineapple :A - Ok maybe im loosing it but I had forgotten about gammon and pineapple!! Hard Up Hester thanks for letting me know it freezes OK and Mrs CD - any chance of a recipe for that fruit cake, please?? It sounds v yum!!!

Wow everyone on here seems to have been very industrious today apart from doing weeks washing and 2 days worth of washing up :o and having a long lazy bath I have not done much at all today. Last nite I fell asleep before I could wash up - woke up; posted on here and then could not 'wind down' sufficiently to sleep!! But didnt want to wash up as water makes a noise in pipes sometimes and did not want to risk disturbing next door's little one (who has problems sleeping!) Think I did too much last week and MUST remember to a) pace myself and b) do something useful with my evening so that I dont fall asleep about 8 or 9 and then wake up at 10 or 11 and then not able to sleep until 2 or 3! Its v self destructive! so c) must actually go to bed at midnight not just shut down this machine and then watch telly and half fall asleep! annoyed with self!

Feeling a bit :o When you have all been so busy! Must get arras into gear tomorrow!
Make do tho: Leek and chicken dish with rice from stocks
    Mend: none
Minimise: Some of the left over Christmas chocolate :o + chicken from freezer!
Send postive vibes for 'getting on with it' to me tomorrow folks, plse! :D
    Nite all

We don't have very good charity shops round here. I remarked last year I have thrown out stuff donated to a jumble sale in better condition than the stuff in charity shops round here. I am amazed anyone buys anything.
  • Morning all,

Hi Dizzy Imp--happy to see you've posted!

Thanks DawnW Camelot101 and Floss, I knew I'd get some fab ideas! It won't be until middle of next month at the earliest so I have plenty of time to work any ingredients into the shopping budget and try out whatever I decide to go with. I quite fancy learning something new. Thanks for the offer to share Floss. I'm still mulling over the main--I have two contenders, one with rice and another with a corn based starch but I haven't asked for likes/dislikes yet so we'll see. I like to have a mental list going so I feel like I don't have to come up with it all at once.

I'll bin the mug--not really sure what I was thinking adding it to the charity pile.

Today we'll minimize by dropping some of the CS finds off on our way to do the shop. I'll mend my coat and we'll make do with a minimal food shop to keep to our budget. This afternoon I'll change bed linens and vac and dust upstairs and do a once through of the kitchen so everything is ready to go for next week.

No cooking for me today, we visited friends yesterday and came home with leftovers, chicken legs, sausages and cooked ham. If hubby was on a day shift next week I'd stretch them into 3 evening meals but he won't be home until 10ish each night and won't want an evening meal. So he can have them to munch during today I will have a jacket potato. I bought a YS head of broccoli on Friday and I have some leftover St Agur cheese, so I'll make soup with them today, that will make a few lunches next week.
I am also minimising more yarn stash as I've started a baby blanket for a colleague.
    Chin up, Titus out.

We, also, are trying to minimise the freezer(s). Both are crammed full, so today's tea is chicken curry using up chicken and pilau rice from the freezer and some veg. And then through the week I will delve again

I am going shopping today, but just for milk, fresh veg, sandwich fillings for DS and some fruit.

Had to mend DS trousers last week, he'd split them from gusset to waistband :rotfl:

I think we may indulge in another film from our stock later as we have snow and no inclination to go out (other than SM) - minimising and making do...
I wanna be in the room where it happens

I am downsizing and moving in a month. Middle dd is staying for a day or two and has asked if she can take the curtains from the dining room for her house as she really likes them and they are good quality. I think she may also have her eye on another pair as does her big sister.

She has also suggested that if I clean up the two wardrobes in the garage I could use them upstairs in the new house for storage of guest towels, bedding etc. so I don't have to go up and downstairs and people can help themselves which seems a good idea.
